Newsletter Signup for HTML — copy-paste form code

Overview

A newsletter signup box is the one thing a static HTML site usually can't do on its own — normally you'd paste an embed script from a mailing service or stand up a serverless function just to catch the POST. SplitForms replaces both: drop in a plain <form method="post" action="https://splitforms.com/api/submit"> with one email input and a hidden access_key, and it captures subscribers on GitHub Pages, S3, Netlify, or any static host with zero JavaScript and no build step. Every signup lands in a dashboard you export to CSV when you're ready to send — the first 500 are free with no card, then Pro is $5/mo for 5,000 submissions.

Drop into any HTML project.

Replace YOUR_ACCESS_KEY with your splitforms key, paste into a HTML page, and ship. No build-time integration required.

HTML + Newsletter Signup

Built for HTML developers who hate operating a backend.

Plain HTML sites have zero built-in form delivery — mailto: links open broken email clients, shared-hosting PHP is vanishing, and setting up Node just for a contact form is overkill. splitforms gives you a production-grade submission pipeline from a single <form action>. No build step, no framework lock-in, no server-side code. The newsletter signup on this page posts standard application/x-www-form-urlencoded data — the same format browsers have used since 1999 — so it works on every host from GitHub Pages to S3 to Apache.

  • 500 form submissions total, free to start
  • Unlimited forms on every plan, including Free
  • Spam protection — honeypot plus a rule-based filter

Newsletter Signup fields

What every field actually does.

The posted payload contains your email. Required fields are your email. Rename, remove, or add your own — splitforms accepts any name you POST.

  • Your email — Reply-to address — splitforms wires this so hitting reply goes back to the sender.

Template playbook

The reason this newsletter signup exists.

Newsletter conversion benchmarks haven't moved much: ConvertKit / Substack landing pages convert at 1-2% of visitors, popup forms at 2-4%, content-upgrade lead magnets at 8-15%. The form itself is trivially simple (email field, optional name) but where it lives matters — exit-intent popup, scroll-triggered slide-in, footer inline, content-end inline all behave differently. Push the submission to your ESP (Mailchimp / ConvertKit / Substack / Beehiiv / Buttondown) via webhook so the welcome email fires automatically. GDPR / CASL require explicit consent — a checkbox or unbundled-consent text under the form covers it for EU and Canadian visitors.

  • Pick the form placement
  • Push to your ESP
  • Add GDPR / CASL consent

How SplitForms works

What happens after someone submits your form?

splitforms receives the submission, filters spam, saves it to your dashboard and emails you — then, on paid plans, sends it on to your webhooks and integrations. No backend infrastructure to build.

View all FAQs
Do I need JavaScript to capture newsletter emails on a plain HTML page?

No. A standard <form> with method="post" and action="https://splitforms.com/api/submit" posts natively — the browser submits it and SplitForms stores the email against your access_key. Add JavaScript only if you'd rather show an inline "thanks for subscribing" message than let the page navigate to the endpoint's response.

Does SplitForms actually send the newsletter, or just collect the subscribers?

It collects and stores them — SplitForms is a form backend, not an email marketing tool, so it won't send the campaign itself. Every signup lands in your dashboard, and you export the full list to CSV to import into whatever you broadcast from (Mailchimp, Buttondown, and the like). Notification emails to you are free on every plan; sending the newsletter stays with your email tool.

How do I stop bots from stuffing my signup form with junk email addresses?

A hidden honeypot field plus a rule-based content filter drop bot submissions automatically — there's no CAPTCHA, so your single email input stays one-click for real readers. That keeps bogus addresses out of the CSV you'll later import, so your send list and bounce rate stay clean.

Can I auto-send a welcome or confirmation email to a new subscriber?

Yes — the auto-responder (a paid feature) replies to whatever address someone submits, so a new reader gets an instant welcome. Pair it with a custom sending domain (also paid) so the message arrives from your own address instead of a generic sender.

Does this newsletter signup work on HTML?

Yes. The form is plain HTML with a single POST endpoint, so it runs on any HTML site without server-side code, plugins, or SDKs. Drop the snippet into a HTML page or component and submissions land in your splitforms dashboard.

How much does the newsletter signup cost on HTML?

Free for 500 submissions — no credit card, no time limit. Pro is $5/mo for 5,000 submissions a month, and Annual is $49/year for 15,000 submissions a month. The same pricing applies regardless of which framework hosts the form.

Can I customize the fields?

Yes. The template ships with sensible defaults (your email…) — add, remove, or rename any of them. Splitforms accepts whatever fields you POST.
