No backend to build

Your form posts to one splitforms endpoint — no server, API route, or SDK. splitforms is the backend.

Straight to your dashboard

Every submission is saved to a searchable dashboard and emailed to you — spam filtered before it lands.

Auto-Reply, built in

No glue code, no third-party middleman — it ships as part of splitforms and works from your first submission.

How to set it up

How to set up Auto-Reply.

How auto-reply flows through splitforms — what you do, what we do, and what lands in your inbox.

Make sure the form has an email field

The auto-reply is sent to the address in the field named 'email'. If the value isn't a valid address, no reply is sent and the submission is saved as usual.

Write the reply in Form settings

Form settings → Auto-responder: switch it on, set the subject and message, and optionally pick a premade design. Use {{ name }} or any other field name as a placeholder.

Submit a test

Submit the form with your own address. The confirmation arrives within moments, and replying to it goes to your notification inbox.

How auto-reply works

How does splitforms handle Auto-Reply?

The auto-reply sends every submitter a confirmation email the moment their submission is saved — the 'we got it' that stops people wondering whether your form worked and cuts duplicate submissions. Turn it on in Form settings → Auto-responder and write the subject and message; placeholders like {{ name }} fill in from the submission, and {{ lead_number }} gives each lead a reference number. Route the same submission to an email inbox or a webhook at the same time — nothing here is one-or-the-other.

  • Instant confirmation for every submitter — fewer 'did you get my message?' follow-ups
  • Custom subject and message with {{ field }} placeholders and a per-lead reference number
  • Premade email designs you can edit, or plain text

What you get

What do you get with Auto-Reply?

Every reason below is the boring, reliable kind — the fundamentals of auto-reply, built once and tested in production so you never have to.

  • Reply-to is your own inbox, so answers never disappear into a no-reply mailbox
  • Sends from your own domain when a custom sending domain is connected
  • No code — it works with any form that posts to splitforms

How SplitForms works

What happens after someone submits your form?

splitforms receives the submission, filters spam, saves it to your dashboard and emails you — then, on paid plans, sends it on to your webhooks and integrations. No backend infrastructure to build.

Connect & automate

Where can submissions go besides email?

On paid plans, submissions can also go to Slack, Discord, Google Sheets, Notion, Airtable, Zapier or any signed webhook — and splitforms works on the platforms you build on, from WordPress and Shopify to Next.js. With Stripe connected, your forms can take payments too.

View all FAQs
How do I send an automatic reply to people who submit my form?

Make sure the form has an input named email, then open Form settings → Auto-responder, turn it on, and write the subject and message. Every accepted submission with a valid email address gets the reply right after it is saved. Submissions caught by the spam filter don't trigger it.

Can I personalise the auto-reply with the submitter's answers?

Yes. Placeholders like {{ name }} are replaced with that submission's values, {{ lead_number }} inserts the lead's reference number, and the premade designs also use {{ business }} and {{ website }} from your form settings. An unmatched placeholder is left visible, so test with a real submission.

Which plan includes the auto-reply?

The auto-reply is included on the paid plans: Pro ($5/month) or Annual ($49/year). Owner notification emails stay free on every plan, including Free.

Who does the auto-reply come from, and where do replies go?

By default it's sent through splitforms' mail infrastructure with your form or business name. The reply-to is your own notification address, so if the lead answers, it reaches you. Connect a custom sending domain to send auto-replies from your own address through your own SMTP server.

Will the auto-reply land in spam?

Inbox placement depends on the recipient's provider and can't be guaranteed. Keep the message short and personal, avoid link-heavy or all-caps copy, and connect a custom sending domain with SPF and DKIM set up at your provider for the best deliverability.
