An agency. Clients around the world. And the same question every day: what should we create next, and why?
Statly is a dedicated video and post analytics platform for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and X. We help agencies, creators and brands research competitors, spot breakout videos and understand what drives performance.
June 2023
I started my social media agency in June 2023. Today, we work with clients all over the world. Different businesses, different audiences, different expectations. Every one of them trusts us to figure out what deserves their time and budget.
I love that responsibility. But the research behind it could be exhausting. I wanted to understand why a video took off, whether a competitor had found something repeatable, and what our team should test next.
A big view count alone never felt like enough. Was it exceptional for that account? Was the video still growing? Could we learn something useful from it?
I wanted to walk into a client conversation with a reason behind the recommendation. That was the tool I kept looking for.
The tools I kept finding were built around scheduling and publishing, with analytics added alongside them. Useful products, but I was looking for somewhere to do serious content research.
I wanted to open one dashboard and understand what was working across the accounts we cared about. I couldn't find the fit I wanted. So my team and I started building it.
We built it, used it, tested it, and kept going.
Statly began as a private web app for our agency. We used it to study accounts, compare results and bring stronger ideas into our own content and client work.
The private web appWe released a public Chrome extension so other people could research while they browsed. It made quick audits accessible and gave us more opportunities to test the approach in practice.
The public Chrome extensionWe kept testing the methodology against the content we researched and created. Seeing it help us find useful patterns repeatedly gave us the confidence to build further.
Testing and refinementThe public web app addressed the limits of browser-based research: manual scans, an open browser and the effort of following many accounts. Scheduled scanning, alerts and shared workspaces made it part of the team's daily routine.
The Statly web platformI still run my agency. I'm still creating, researching and working in social media every day. And I still open Statly for the same reason I built it: I need to make better decisions for real accounts.
I've built workflows and automations around it that connect research to the work our team does next. We follow niches, investigate videos gaining momentum, and turn the patterns we find into original ideas for our own profiles and our clients.
In my own work, that process has helped me find viral hits more consistently and grow the revenue I earn through my agency. It has also given me something less visible: more confidence in where we spend our creative energy.
When something is frustrating to use, I feel it too. The next improvement often starts with our team needing a better way to get through the day's work.
Our research starts with an account's own results.
Compare a video's views with its creator's average and median. Explore engagement rates and the view-to-follower ratio to put a result in context.
Trend Finder compares daily view growth with an account's typical pace, helping you find videos picking up speed across your niches.
Watchlist brings together performance over time, posting patterns and individual video results so you can investigate what's working.
Choose a scan time and let the web app handle the routine. Active accounts are scanned daily; accounts quiet for 14 days or more are checked weekly. Connect the results to your workflow through alerts, the API and MCP.
Instead, we made it public. Apparently, giving everyone access to the tool we built for our own agency felt like a sensible competitive strategy.
Honestly, I want more people to have that moment when the numbers finally make sense and the next idea feels worth pursuing. If Statly helps you get there, I'm glad we opened it up.
