mise shell

  • Usage: mise shell [FLAGS] <TOOL@VERSION>…
  • Aliases: sh
  • Effect: read-only
  • Source code: src/cli/shell.rs

Set a tool version for the current shell session

Installs the version if needed, then sets MISE_<TOOL>_VERSION, such as MISE_NODE_VERSION, to the resolved version in the current shell. That overrides config files until you close the shell or run mise shell --unset <TOOL>. Requires mise activate: the shell function it defines applies the variable that this command prints.

Arguments

  • <TOOL@VERSION>… — Tools to set, such as node@20

Flags

  • -j --jobs <JOBS> — Number of jobs to run in parallel (default: the jobs setting)

    Environment Variable: MISE_JOBS

  • -u --unset — Remove a version set earlier with mise shell

  • --raw — Connect the install commands' stdin, stdout, and stderr to the terminal

    Implies --jobs=1.

  • -h --help — Print help

Examples

Use node 20 in this shell

mise shell node@20
node -v
v20.19.5

Go back to the version the config requests

mise shell --unset node
