mise completion

  • Usage: mise completion [FLAGS] [SHELL]
  • Aliases: complete, completions
  • Effect: read-only
  • Source code: src/cli/completion.rs

Generate shell completions

Prints a completion script for SHELL, or with --install writes it where that shell loads completions from. The script asks mise for candidates as you type, so it also completes your project's task names and tool versions. See https://mise.jdx.dev/shell-setup.html#autocompletion.

Arguments

  • [SHELL] — Shell type to generate completions for (required)

Choices: bash, fish, powershell, zsh, pwsh

Flags

  • --install — Install the script where this shell looks for it, instead of printing it

It writes only the script file, never a shell startup file or PowerShell profile. If your shell needs a one-time setup line, such as zsh's fpath+= or PowerShell's dot-source, mise prints it for you to add.

    Effect: modifies state

  • --force — Replace a file at the target path that mise did not write

    Effect: modifies state

  • --tool <TOOL> — Generate completions for a tool installed with the packslip: backend

TOOL is the tool or one of its executables; with --install, pass the executable's name. The script matches the version active in the current directory and comes from the most verifiable source its packslip offers: a file the vendor shipped, a script derived from its CLI spec, or a command of the tool's own. With --install, mise writes a small stub that asks mise for the script each time the shell completes the tool, so it follows version changes without being rewritten.

  • -h --help — Print help

Examples

Install completions for zsh; bash, fish, and powershell work the same way

mise completion zsh --install

Print the script to inspect it or save it somewhere else

mise completion zsh

Install completions for hk, a tool installed with the packslip backend

mise completion zsh --tool hk --install
