White Noise Generator
Play continuous white, pink or brown noise generated locally in your browser. Choose the level and fade, then set a timer or leave it running until you stop it.
of 25 m
Silent: playback is stopped. Press play to start white noise at 18 per cent.
- Equal energy in every hertz, so the spectrum is flat: the brightest of the three, a hiss.
- Silent. No audio node exists until you press play.
- 1.5 second buffers are generated and scheduled end to end, so the sound never comes round again.
- Playback fades out, then the audio nodes are disconnected.
Accuracy. The noise is generated in the browser from a random source, so it never loops and nothing is downloaded. White is equal energy per hertz, pink falls about 3 dB per octave and brown about 6, which is why brown sounds deeper. This is a sound generator: it makes no claim about sleep, concentration, tinnitus or any health effect.
Common questions
- What is a white noise generator?
- A sound generator that produces random audio samples. Here white has equal energy per hertz, pink falls about 3 dB per octave and brown about 6 dB per octave. White sounds brighter; pink and brown emphasize lower frequencies. Choose the colour with the buttons above the tool.
- Does the audio repeat or download a recording?
- There is no recorded track or audio stream. The browser generates fresh samples into short buffers while it plays, so there is no repeating recording. Closing or leaving the page releases the audio engine.
- Can I play white noise while going to sleep or studying?
- You can play it as background sound, choose a colour and set a stop timer. The sleep preset starts with an eight-hour timer; it does not start sound automatically. This is audio playback, with no claim about sleep, concentration, tinnitus or a health effect.
- How do the level and fade controls work?
- A fresh main-page visit starts at 18 per cent. The level percentage is squared to get the gain, so 50 per cent means one quarter of full gain. Fade in sets the ramp from silence, and Stop ramps down before releasing the audio nodes.
- Can I set the noise to stop on its own?
- Choose 25 minutes, 1 hour or 8 hours, use Off to run until Stop, or type a duration up to 12 hours. A bare number means minutes; 1h30m and 1:30:00 both mean an hour and a half. Changing the timer during playback restarts its countdown from that moment.
- Can I use it in an office?
- It plays background noise through your chosen speakers or headphones. It does not measure sound at other desks, prove speech is private or prevent a microphone recording. Those depend on room acoustics, equipment and listening positions.
- Does it work on an iPhone, Android, Mac or Windows computer?
- It uses your browser's Web Audio engine. Press Play to allow sound; a setting that blocks browser audio can prevent playback. A mobile browser can suspend audio when the screen locks or the tab goes into the background. Keep this page open and visible for dependable operation; this page cannot override device power policies.
- Does it remember my settings?
- The main page saves changed settings in this browser when storage is available. Colour and sleep preset pages keep changes for that visit and preserve the main page settings. Playback always starts silent.
- Can I export WAV or MP3 audio?
- This page provides live playback. It has no audio-file export or recorded rain, fan or music tracks.
