Mind Map Maker

Make a mind map by typing an outline: Tab adds a child and Enter adds a node beside it. Row buttons offer the same edits on a phone. Paste an indented outline, switch to Map to pan and zoom, and choose Rectangles or Bubbles. Download SVG, JSON or text, or a print document with Print / Save PDF. Saved JSON reopens here. Your map stays in this browser without an account.

Open the downloaded HTML file and press Print / Save PDF. Choose the document's paper size and orientation, 100% scale and no browser headers or footers. Save as PDF is available when your browser's print dialog offers it. Large maps use overlapping pages; unfold branches first to include them.

refused: The centre of the map cannot sit under another node. Drag a branch onto the centre instead, or rename the centre.

Type the outline, or open one

One idea on each line, indented for every level inside. Tabs, two spaces and four spaces all nest the way they look. Generated text quotes literal bullets and fold suffixes; keep the quotes when editing them. Building from the box replaces the labels and hierarchy on the stage, resets folds and assigns new IDs. In a concept chart, new relationships start as "relates to". Open JSON to retain relationships and folds.

Up to 500 nodes, 120 characters a label.

Every edit happens in this tab. Download writes the SVG, the JSON or the plain text tree onto your own device, Copy puts the same text on the clipboard, and a JSON file opens back here with every label, every fold and the order of every branch as it was. A node you drag onto something inside its own branch is refused and the map is left alone, because a mind map that contains itself has no depth to draw. The map is kept in this browser, so the next visit opens where you left off.

Common questions

How do I make a mind map without signing up?
Edit the starter map directly. Rename the centre, press Tab to add a child, or use + in on a row. Enter or + beside adds a sibling to a branch. The editor and its exports are free and need no account.
Which keys does the editor use?
Tab adds a child. Enter adds a sibling directly after the current node. Shift+Tab moves a branch out one level. Alt with the up or down arrow reorders siblings; arrows alone move between rows. Delete or Backspace on an empty label removes that branch. Escape leaves the outline so Tab can navigate the page.
Why is a move into the same branch refused?
A node cannot become its own ancestor. Moving a node under one of its descendants would create a loop, so the editor names the nodes involved and keeps the map unchanged. The move list excludes descendants as targets.
How do I save the mind map?
Choose SVG, JSON or Text under Export, then press Download. Copy puts the same output text on the clipboard. SVG saves the visible drawing; Text saves the visible tree, so folded children are omitted from both. JSON keeps every node, its order, node shape and folded state, and can be opened here again. SVG replaces characters XML cannot represent with the replacement character (); JSON retains the stored text.
How big can one map get?
A map holds up to 500 nodes, 12 levels below the centre, and 120 characters per label. The editor reports a limit instead of dropping a branch. Long labels are shortened in drawn boxes; the full label stays in the outline, JSON and the SVG box title.
Will the map still be here when I come back?
The map, view and export choice are saved in this browser on this device. Storage can be blocked or cleared, so download JSON to keep a separate copy. With unavailable storage the editor still works for the current session.
Can I make a mind map from text?
Paste one idea per line into the outline box, with one unindented centre line and indented branches. Tabs, two spaces or four spaces set deeper levels. Put this map in the box includes folded children and quotes literal bullet labels or fold suffixes. Keep those quotes when editing. Build the map rebuilds labels and hierarchy, with new IDs and open branches. Open JSON to keep IDs and folds. Build automatically parses and draws the hierarchy from your supplied ideas.
How does the Map view work?
Switch to Map to see a left-to-right drawing of the visible branches. Drag the background to pan, and use Zoom in, Zoom out or Fit. Click a box to select it, then return to Outline to edit its label or branches.
Can I use this mind mapping software on a PC or Mac?
Yes. It is browser software you use on this page, with no installer needed. A desktop keyboard offers the outline shortcuts, and row buttons also support touch editing. Saved maps stay in the browser where you created them.
Can students use it for studying?
Use the centre for a topic, branches for key ideas, and child nodes for examples or revision questions. You supply the ideas yourself. The editor builds a map from your indented outline; it does not extract ideas from a PDF or generate them with AI.
Can I make both a mind map and a concept map?
Use this editor for a mind map, or the concept chart preset for a hierarchical concept map. The preset adds editable relationships from parent to child, with arrows and relationship labels in the drawing and SVG. It remembers a separate chart. Each concept has one parent; arbitrary cross-links, cycles and flowchart shapes are not supported.
How do I start a blank mind map?
Press New blank map, then confirm Replace with blank map. It replaces this map with one empty centre, ready to name and add branches. Download JSON first if you want to keep the current map. Cancel keeps it.
How do I make a bubble mind map?
Choose Bubbles above the stage. The visible drawing and SVG use oval nodes with room for the label and folded-branch count. Long labels are shortened in the drawing, with the full label in its title and JSON. JSON and browser storage remember the shape; Rectangles switches it back.
How do I print a mind map or save it as PDF?
Choose A4 or Letter under Print paper, then press Download print document. Open the HTML file and press Print / Save PDF. In the print dialog choose the document's paper size and orientation, 100% scale and no browser headers or footers. Select a printer, or Save as PDF when your browser offers it. Large maps use overlapping pages labelled by row and column. This output includes only visible branches; unfold them first to print the full map.

The map is a tree, so a node can never become its own ancestor and a move that would make a loop is refused rather than drawn. Everything is kept in this browser, and the JSON it saves is the file it reads back.
