ABSTRACT
This project presents the design, modeling, and simulation of a grid-connected photovoltaic
(PV) power conversion system aimed at maximizing energy extraction and improving overall
efficiency. The system integrates a photovoltaic panel with a Maximum Power Point
Tracking (MPPT) algorithm, a DC-DC boost converter, and a Voltage Source Inverter (VSI)
to ensure effective power conditioning and grid compatibility. The MPPT control,
implemented using the Perturb and Observe (P&O) method, dynamically adjusts the
operating point of the PV array to extract maximum power under varying irradiance and
temperature conditions. The boost converter regulates the DC voltage level, while the VSI
converts the regulated DC power into AC for grid integration, employing Pulse Width
Modulation (PWM) for harmonic reduction. A comprehensive controller block oversees the
coordination of system components, ensuring stable operation and synchronization with grid
parameters. Simulation studies conducted in MATLAB/Simulink validate the performance of
the system, highlighting high power conversion efficiency, voltage regulation, and reduced
harmonic distortion. The results affirm the system’s viability for sustainable energy
generation and its potential application in residential, commercial, and industrial
environments.
