@ Safety Precautions
| 1 The design ins product contains special hardware and many cicuis and components special or salety purposes. For continued
| protection. no changes should be made tothe original design unless authorize in weting by the manufacturer. Replacement parts
‘must be identical to those used inthe original circuits. Service should be performed by qualified personnel only.
2. Alterations ofthe design or circuitry ofthe produet should not be made, Any design alterations ofthe product should not be made,
Any design alterations or additions will void the manulacure's warranty and will urther relieve the manufacture of responsibilty
for personal injury or property damage resuting therelrom.
3, Many olectrical and machanical pars in the preduct have special safty — related characteristics. These characterises are often
rot evident from visual inspection nor can the protection alforded by them necessarly be obtained by using replacement
‘components rated for higher voltage, wattage, etc. Replacement parts which have these special safely characteristics are
‘identified in the parts list of service manual. Electrical components having such features are identified by shading((=22) and { A)
fn the Schematic diagram and pats list in the service manual, The use ofa substitute replacement which dose net have the same
safety charactoristics as the recommended replacement part shown in the pats list of service manual may create shock, fr, or
other hazards,
4. The leads inthe products are routed and dressed with ties, clamps, tubings, barters and the lke to be separated from lve parts,
high temperature parts, mpving pars and or sharp edges forthe prevention of electric shock and fire hazard. When service is
required. the orginal lead routing and dress should be observed, and it should be confirmed that they have boon retuned to
normal, alter reassembling,
5. Leakage current chock (Electrical shock hazard testing)
Alter re — assembling the product, always perlorm an isolation check on the exposed metal parts of the product (antenna
terminals, knobs, metal cabinet, screw heads, headphone jack, control shalts, ec) to be sure the product is sale to operate

Important for Laser Products
1. CLASS 1 LASER PRODUCT
2. DANGER: Invisible laser radiation when open and in-
terlock failed or defeated. Avoid direct exposure to beam.
3. CAUTION: Do not open the bottom cover. There are no
ser serviceable parts inside the unit; leave all servicing
‘to qualified service personnel.
4. CAUTION: The compact disc player uses invisible laser
radiation and is equipped with safety switches which p
vent emission of radiation when unloading cartridge and
the safety interiocks have failed or are defeated. It is
dangerous to defeat the safety switches.
5. CAUTION: Use of controls of adjustments of perfor-
mance of procedures other than those
may result in hazardous radiation exposure.

(1) Checking the service life of laser diode
fa laser diode reaches the end of its service life, the following phenomena will show up. Similar symptoms may
also appear when the pickuplens becomes too dirty. In this case, clean the lens.
1) The RF output (between TPSO2(RA and TPSO1(VREF))
2) The driving current, necessary for the laser diode to emit lights, increases. (Calculate from the voltage level at
both ends of the R505 at 10 2 .)
‘@ Following the flow chart shown below, check the service life.

@ How to measure laser diodes driving current
‘After connecting a voltmeter at both ends of the R505(10 © ), measure the voltage during playback. If the voltage
level is at 1.0 V or more, the service lfe ofthe laser diode has expired.
Laser diode's driving current (A)
= Vottage level at both ends of R505 (V)/10 (2 )
‘When voltage level is at 1.0 V:
1.0VN0Q =0.1A=100mA
Note:
The laser diode easily breaks down. Be sure to turn the power off before connecting a voltmeter.
