Literacy Software for Early Childhood Education

The document discusses two literacy software/web-based programs used in the classroom: Starfall and Alphabet Aquarium. [1] Starfall supports the development of early literacy skills like reading, language, communication, and numeracy. It engages multiple intelligences such as logical-mathematical and interpersonal. [2] Alphabet Aquarium assists children in recognizing capital and small letters and learning about animals. It also engages linguistic and interpersonal intelligence. The reflection questions whether literacy programs were used, and if so, which early literacy skills they addressed, such as social-emotional development, cognitive skills, and language learning.

Observation Task 5: Literacy Software /Web-based Programs

Focus: Identify types of literacy software/web-based programs used in the classroom

Objective: To encourage student teachers to use various literacy software/web-based programs in the
classroom which support the development of early childhood literacy skills

Procedure: Familiarize yourself with the Observation Table: Documenting Computer Software / Web-
based Programs. Describe how each program/website that was used in the classroom supports the current
unit of study, the ADEC curriculum, and multiple bits of intelligence
