Task 2

The document discusses active learning environments and their benefits. It defines inquiry-based learning as a student-centered approach that stimulates learning through inquiry and moves students toward self-directed learning. The benefits for teachers include integrating teaching and research, increased enjoyment, and interacting with students. Three lessons were observed: an English lesson on the letter K, a math lesson on number 10, and an English lesson on "The Very Hungry Caterpillar." The caterpillar lesson engaged students most as it was their first time hearing the story, which they found attractive and helped develop their knowledge of the butterfly life cycle. Safety considerations in lessons included securing sharp objects, making students aware of permission needs, and having classroom rules signage.

TP Task 2 – Active Learning Environments

Planning activities that allow students to clarify, question, apply, and consolidate new
knowledge.
What is an active learning environment? What are its benefits? How does it link to the
inquiry cycle?
“Inquiry-based learning (IBL) is a pedagogy which best enables students to experience the processes of
knowledge creation and the key attributes are learning stimulated by inquiry, a student-centered
approach, a move to self-directed learning, and an active approach to learning” (Bühler, Schlaich, &
Sinner, 2018).

“The benefits can accrue to teachers through the integration of teaching and research, increased
enjoyment, and interaction with students and the rewards gained from enhanced learning outcomes for
students” (Bühler, Schlaich, & Sinner, 2018).
