Delivering new nuclear power safely and reliably requires careful navigation of earthquake hazards, site conditions and a changing regulatory environment. Valentina Montaldo Falero works with nuclear developers to translate site-specific seismic hazard into defensible, regulator-ready decisions. With expertise in engineering seismology and nuclear licensing, she provides the technical clarity needed to meet Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) expectations and advance complex projects with confidence. By turning seismic hazard into actionable insight, Valentina and her team help nuclear developers reduce uncertainty and support regulatory review. This work advances safer, more resilient nuclear infrastructure for the reliable energy delivery that communities and industries depend on. Zero waste. Real progress. At the launch of Miami-Dade County’s Zero Waste Master Plan, a bold vision became an actionable roadmap. Shaped by more than 2,000 community voices, the plan reimagines waste as a resource, creating environmental and economic value while advancing a more circular future. We're proud to partner with Miami-Dade on this milestone and grateful to leaders like Randy Russell, Catherine Prince, MBA, and Michael Nardone who helped turn ambition into action. Cleaner communities. Stronger economies. Greater possibilities for generations to come. #WeAreWSP #Environment #ZeroWaste

The future of transit is connected and inclusive. New research explores how microtransit and paratransit can extend the reach of rail and bus networks to create better mobility outcomes for more people. In her latest white paper, Charvi Gupta explores how transit agencies are using demand-responsive services and data-driven strategies to expand access and build more resilient transportation networks. When environmental safety depends on long-term air-quality data, consistent, defensible and decision-ready results are essential. Achieving that standard requires reliable monitoring across extended time frames, remote sites and evolving regulatory requirements. Nate Topie helps deliver the scientific rigor behind environmental monitoring programs that communities, regulators and decision-makers depend on. In WSP’s Gainesville Air and Environmental Analytical Laboratory, he and his team support programs such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Clean Air Status and Trends Network (CASTNET), which tracks long-term environmental conditions across North America. Their work helps provide trusted air-quality data used to evaluate environmental trends, support compliance requirements, and inform decisions that affect public and environmental health. When hidden groundwater threatened to derail a critical wastewater infrastructure project in Portland, Oregon, collaboration and innovation kept it moving forward. The City of Portland’s Carolina Trunk Rehabilitation project is replacing a nearly 90-year-old sewer beneath one of the region’s most complex urban corridors — navigating challenging topography, historic infrastructure, residential neighborhoods and proximity to Interstate 5. When the team encountered unexpected artesian groundwater conditions, they adapted quickly to keep this vital project on track. Engineering News-Record recently highlighted how the Carolina Trunk team overcame these challenges through technical expertise and teamwork, demonstrating what’s possible when project partners come together to solve infrastructure challenges.
