Taking time to reflect on history can be a strong and inspiring reminder of the resiliency, legacy and service of those who came before us. In 1942, an 11,000-acre site in Missouri became the largest U.S. Army cantonment at the time. Camp Crowder was built to support 23,000 military personnel during World War II. Our firm contributed to the design and construction of the utilities and facilities needed for daily life and military readiness, including 2,000+ buildings, 80 miles of storm and sanitary sewers, and 75 miles of water mains. At the peak of the work, 430 engineers and support staff were on-site, helping move the project forward in about one year. The work is part of our history, but the deeper story belongs to the people who trained, served and supported the country at Camp Crowder.

Planning for growth is one thing. Building for it is another. PowerSouth Energy Cooperative is putting long-term capacity planning into action with expansion of the Lowman Energy Center. Addition of a new advanced-class gas turbine will increase winter generating capacity from 696 MW to more than 1 GW, helping strengthen reliability for the communities it serves. Through collaboration among PowerSouth, Mitsubishi Power Americas and the Burns & McDonnell integrated EPC team, this project is moving from planning to reality. Behind every launch is a team working to protect people, infrastructure and the mission. Spaceflight will always carry risk. When a serious event occurs, engineers and construction teams have a responsibility to study what happened with care and apply those lessons to what comes next. That work can shape safer facilities, stronger support networks and better recovery plans for future missions.
