Employee-owners in our Chattanooga, Tennessee office recently rolled up their sleeves to help clean up Spring Creek and install a litter boom funded in part by a grant from the Terracon Foundation. The floating barrier will help capture plastic and other debris before it can travel downstream into the Tennessee River and will also provide valuable data to support community efforts related to plastic pollution. Local students joined the effort, learning about environmental stewardship and the importance of protecting our waterways. Projects like this reflect our commitment to the communities we call home. Today is National 811 Day, a reminder to both professional contractors and homeowners to call 811 before any digging project to have underground utilities marked. Calling 811 before every project — from replacing a mailbox to breaking ground on a major facility — can help prevent injuries, outages, and costly repairs. We reaffirmed our commitment to digging safely in 2021 by providing underground utility locator wands to all of our operations to use before any groundbreaking activity — as a final check after calling 811. Please call 811 before the next time you break ground. Learn more: 811beforeyoudig.com

When a group of employee-owners in Louisiana started spending their days together supporting a major project, they decided to spend some of their evenings together, too. They formed the TerraTurtles, a recreational softball team that now gathers for weekly games, post-game meals, and plenty of memorable moments. "TerraTurtles helped solidify our bond," says Alyssa Hill, materials engineering technician. "We've met our co-workers' loved ones and gone out to eat after each game. We just have a good time."
