  • Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding recently welcomed the USS Silversides, an iconic World War II submarine, to our Sturgeon Bay shipyard for a planned three-month preservation project.   The work will support the vessel’s long-term preservation and includes hull cleaning, steel renewal, exterior coating, and other essential maintenance.   One of the most decorated U.S. submarines of World War II, the USS Silversides is owned and maintained by the USS Silversides Submarine Museum in Muskegon, Michigan.   We are proud to support the museum in this important effort alongside the professionals at Valkor Energy Services. Projects of this nature require careful planning, skilled tradespeople, and extensive experience maintaining complex steel vessels—especially historic vessels, where preservation goals and technical requirements must be carefully balanced.   The USS Silversides is in capable hands at Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding, one of the nation’s most experienced, trusted, and safety-focused shipyards. #Fincantieri #FincantieriMarineGroup #FutureOnBoard #USSSilversides

  • Our Talent On Board program aims to develop the leaders who will shape the future of American shipbuilding. Over a two‑year journey, participants build the operational, cultural, and leadership skills needed to support complex programs and strengthen the U.S. industrial base. Our participants have now progressed into the Leadership module, focused on understanding how teams function, how communication drives performance, and how leaders can influence the broader organization. Over 12 sessions at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Green Bay, participants learn to recognize performance challenges, strengthen collaboration, and apply practical leadership tools in their daily work. For Matt Brown, this module reinforced a personal belief on leadership: “It helped me grow and, more fundamentally, it helped affirm my theory that learning leads to growth. Learning itself is a continuous process, and being a leader requires continuous learning.” Matt’s path into Talent On Board reflects the spirit of the program - recognizing employees who consistently give their best and show a genuine commitment to the mission: “The process was not rigorous because I was simply doing work the way I have always done it, by giving a level-best effort every day. I was nominated because I demonstrated behaviors held in high regard by the company and had a keen interest in learning about the shipbuilding industry.” Mentorship is core to the experience, pairing participants with leaders who help broaden perspectives and deepen understanding of the business. Matt shared that his time with David Petry, Director of Purchasing Compliance, has been impactful: “I have worked well with my mentor so far… We discussed several topics about our shipyard’s operations that helped me put some of my own observations in a larger context.” Experiences like these are exactly why Talent On Board exists: to help employees grow and strengthen the teams that keep our shipyards moving.
