In occasione dell’evento “Connext Filiere.

The global Space sector is growing and moving fast, with increasing strategic relevance for Europe’s technological and industrial autonomy. Lorenzo Mariani, CEO and General Manager of #Leonardo, shared his perspective with the Financial Times on the need to join forces in order to strengthen Europe’s role in this evolving scenario. "Without co-operation, European industries will never reach the critical mass and the capability to really be worldwide champions as an alternative not only to American companies but also as an alternative to many other players that are coming from the market," Lorenzo Mariani stated. In this context, the proposed project involving #Leonardo, Airbus and Thales aims to combine activities across satellite manufacturing, Space systems and services, representing a crucial step for Europe’s presence and relevance in the sector. Lorenzo Mariani also underlined that building a stronger European champion would benefit the wider ecosystem and help promote and protect the supply chain, especially as public and private investment in the sector increases. #Leonardo has been recognised once again in TIME World’s Most Sustainable Companies, for the second consecutive year. Developed in collaboration with Statista, the ranking assesses companies on three key dimensions: revenue growth, financial stability and environmental impact, confirming that sustainable performance and industrial competitiveness go hand in hand. At Leonardo, #sustainability is not a standalone commitment—it is embedded in our 2026-2030 Strategic Plan and serves as a key driver of resilience, innovation, and long-term value creation. In 2025, we expanded our long-term environmental commitments with two new strategic targets: • Over 86% of electricity purchased across the Group to come from renewable sources • Over 60% of material outflows are circular This latest result builds on a strong track record: 16 consecutive years in the Dow Jones Best-in-Class Indices, with the highest #ESG score in the Aerospace, Defence & Security sector, alongside the recent publication of our Transition Plan 2026. Through this plan, the company is committing approximately €1.2 billion in climate-aligned investments by 2030, with 79% of Group financing linked to ESG criteria. Together, these achievements reflect a path grounded in consistency and measurable results, aimed at creating sustainable value for stakeholders and the broader ecosystem. #Leonardo and Baykar Technologies set a major milestone in the development of Crewed/UnCrewed Teaming (CUC-T) and swarm tactics capabilities, after successfully completing the first phase of live testing activities for the K-SWARM programme. The programme is aimed at designing and developing interoperability between crewed and uncrewed aircraft. Collaborative combat teaming has increasingly become a key enabler of future combat air systems, and part of the evolution of current generation fighters. Today’s design of Crewed/UnCrewed Teaming (CUC-T) is one of the fundamental strands for the transformation of military and security tools in all domains. Its’ importance is not only technological, but also operational, doctrinal and industrial. The testing was carried out in May at one of Baykar’s flight and test center in Çorlu, Türkiye. The flight test campaign involved two Leonardo #M346 airplanes - a Leonardo owned M-346 Fighter Attack Variant, with an Italian Air Force’s (Aeronautica Militare) T-346A acting as chase aircraft - and the Bayraktar KIZILELMA Uncrewed Fighter Aircraft. The first phase of trials demonstrates the solid partnership between Leonardo and Baykar, and their respective technology and industrial competences. It confirms the companies’ competitive advantage in the field and represents a concrete step towards the development of critical capabilities for modern combat air operations in multidomain operational scenarios. https://lnkd.in/e5yncKX2 #LDO_PR
