The first chapter is so hard to push through and takes the enjoyment out of the story.

I admit I watched the movie first, but I'm glad that spurred me on to read this book. Hands down the book is better. The movie is the decaff version, tastes the same but isn't half as satisfying.
I love Mark's voice, his attitude and... I loved everything about this. I'm kicking myself for not reading it before.
Will I read again... Yes! Would I recommend... Yes!!!! ...more

I adored the well thought out background for the fairies, their location, their rules and regulations, and their individual characters.
The book is an enchanting read. I really didn't want to stop when the book ended so will be reading the rest in the series and hoping they match up to this one. ...more
I'm completely gobsmacked at how much I enjoyed this. I did remark to my hubs at one point that I wanted Meg to eat everybody!

Surprisingly drawn in by the frenetic pace of the story, the characters were likeable apart from one but that was my opinion of her not the writer's fault.
Jaws meets Sharknado meets a huge dose of steroids. This should be picked up by the SciFy channel as a movie.
Edit... Apparently this is being made into a movie.

Don't get me wrong, I had no expectations from this. I had no advance impressions to go on. Yes I know about the movie and TV series but I was aware that the book bore very little resemblance to those.
I wanted to read the book for a long time, but my anticipation over-weighed how I really felt. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. Ah well I'll move onto the next.......more

Based on the premise that 100 million people will be playing an online game based on the solar system the story concentrates on Nova Negrahnu and her journey through the game. Fast paced, and showing how the line between fantasy and reality can blur the author manages to convince that the game could be a possibility.
Set in Britain the book introduces cyber warfare into the plot and this is where it falls down slightly. The antagonists seemed confused about what their motives were and seemed to face no real life consequences from their actions.
As a first novel it was an engaging read and one, that in time, I would read again. Although I'm not sure that it would have the same effect the second time round.
Another point is the note at the end of the novel, the author points the reader towards his website where he is attempting to bring the game to life for real. A clever marketing ploy or something he's actually working towards, I guess we'll see in four years time. ...more
