PHOENIX (AZFamily) — There is a good chance of the 80s moving into the Valley early next week. How common are the 80s in February?

It actually depends on how many days in the 80s we are talking about.

Below is a breakdown of how often temperatures in Phoenix hit at least 80 degrees in February over the past 35 years. Notice that it is quite common to hit 80-plus temperatures at least once. In fact, it’s happened 80% of the time over the past 35 years.

But what about temperatures in the 80s during the early part of February? Since Valentine’s Day is the halfway point of the month, I decided to break down 80-plus days that occurred before Feb. 14 (Valentine’s Day).

The chart below shows that, a little less than half of the time, no days made it to at least 80. At least one day made it to 80+ a little more than half of the time.

However, it was much less common for at least five days to make it to 80-plus temperatures, as this happened only 14% of the time.

The forecast for next week shows a possibility of stringing several days in the 80s together. The number of days that end up making the cut will determine how rare this weather pattern actually is.
