About Webmaster & Network

The Webmaster category has 16 tools for checking domains, servers, email setup and URLs. WHOIS Lookup shows when a domain was registered, when it expires and its nameservers. DNS Lookup queries common record types at once, and the DNS Propagation Checker asks 13 public resolvers whether a change has spread. For email there are MX Lookup, SPF Record Checker, DMARC Checker and Email Validator. The SSL Certificate Checker reads a site's certificate and days to expiry, and the HTTP Header Checker shows response headers with a security checklist. The Website Uptime Checker tells you if a site is up right now. Domain to IP Lookup and What Is My IP Address help with network checks. URL Shortener and URL Expander make or unpack short links, the Mobile Responsive Checker previews a page on 12 device sizes, and Compare Two Web Pages shows the differences between two URLs. These tools are for site owners, developers and IT staff.

Common questions

Why do some of these tools use a server?

Browsers cannot make raw WHOIS, SSL or HTTP header requests to other sites. So tools like WHOIS Lookup, SSL Certificate Checker and HTTP Header Checker send the domain or URL you enter to our server, which makes the request and returns the result. DNS tools such as DNS Lookup and the DNS Propagation Checker ask public DNS over HTTPS resolvers, like Google and Cloudflare, straight from your browser.

How do I check my SPF and DMARC records?

The SPF Record Checker expands every include and counts DNS lookups against the limit of 10. The DMARC Checker reads your record tag by tag, probes common DKIM selectors and can generate a new record. MX Lookup shows which servers and provider receive your mail.

Why does a WHOIS lookup hide the owner's name?

Many registrars hide personal details for privacy, especially since GDPR. You will still usually see the registrar, dates, status codes and nameservers. The tool falls back to RDAP when WHOIS fails.

Can the Website Uptime Checker monitor my site all the time?

No. It checks whether a site is up right now, with the status code, response time and SSL days left. It can re-check every minute while the page stays open, but it stops when you close it.

Does the Email Validator send a test email?

No. It checks the address format and whether the domain has MX records, and it flags disposable and role addresses like info@. An address can pass these checks and still not exist.

Does the URL Shortener need an account?

No. It creates short links without an account and adds no tracking parameters to your URL. It also gives you a QR code you can download as a PNG.
