How to convert HEIC to PNG
HEIC is what your iPhone saves photos as, and almost nothing outside Apple's ecosystem will open it. Converting to PNG makes the photo usable everywhere — email, websites, Windows, print shops.
- Click the Choose Files button and select your HEIC files.
- PNG is already selected as the output. Click the gear if you want to adjust quality or resize.
- Click Convert, then hit Download to save your PNG files, or grab them all as a ZIP.
Built for HEIC files
Drop in as many HEIC images as you like and they all come out as PNG. You can also change the output on any individual file if you need a mixed batch.
Keep the quality
Adjust quality per file and resize on the way through. Formats without transparency get a clean white matte instead of the black edges most converters leave behind.
Nothing is uploaded
Your files are read and written by your own browser. They are never sent to a server, so there is nothing to delete afterwards and no size or file-count limit.
More image tools
Three separate tools, all running the same way — entirely inside your browser, with nothing uploaded.
The compressor is the one to use when you want a smaller file without changing its format — it can hit an exact target file size, which the converter cannot. The resizer handles exact dimensions and ready-made presets for Instagram and YouTube, including common sizes like 1920×1080 and 1080×1080.
A few things are built into this converter and need no separate tool:
- Compress without converting — pick the same format as your input and lower the quality slider to shrink a file while keeping its type.
- Resize — open the gear on any file and set a maximum width; the height follows automatically.
- Images to PDF — choose PDF as the output to turn a photo or scan into a document.
- Make a favicon — choose ICO as the output to produce a browser icon from any square image.
What is a HEIC file?
HEIC stands for High Efficiency Image Container. HEIC is the format an iPhone uses by default. It stores roughly the same quality as JPG in about half the space.
Outside the Apple ecosystem support is poor, which is why HEIC photos so often need converting before they can be shared or uploaded.
What is a PNG file?
PNG stands for Portable Network Graphics. PNG is a lossless format, which means every pixel is preserved exactly as it was. It also supports transparency, so it is the usual choice for logos, icons, screenshots and any graphic with sharp edges or text.
Because nothing is thrown away, PNG files of photographs are often several times larger than the same image as JPG or WebP.
HEIC to PNG: when you plan to edit the photo
Converting an iPhone photo to PNG makes sense when it is going into an editor and will be saved repeatedly. PNG is lossless, so those repeated saves will not degrade it the way a JPG workflow does.
Understand what you are and are not gaining. The image is decoded to 8 bits per channel by the browser, so PNG does not preserve HEIC's original 10-bit depth — the advantage is losslessness from this point forward, not extra tonal information. Files will be very large, since HEIC is highly compressed and PNG is not; a 2 MB phone photo can become a 20 MB PNG. Live Photo video and portrait-mode depth data are not carried over. If you just need the photo to open on Windows, JPG is the smaller and more sensible choice.

Frequently asked questions
Should I convert HEIC to PNG or to JPG?
JPG for sharing, storage and getting the photo to open on any device — it is far smaller. PNG if the image is going straight into an editor and will be saved several times, since lossless editing avoids the quality loss that repeated JPG saves cause.
Will converting HEIC to PNG improve the quality?
No. Detail already discarded by HEIC cannot be recovered. What converting to PNG does is stop any further loss, so the image will not degrade again on the next save.
Is there a limit on file size or how many files I can convert?
No. Conversion runs inside your browser rather than on a server, so there is no upload, no queue and no cap. Very large images may simply take a moment on a slower device.
Are my HEIC files uploaded anywhere?
No. Your files are read and written by your own browser and never leave your device. You can disconnect from the internet once the page has loaded and the converter will still work.
Do I need Safari or an iPhone to convert HEIC?
No. HEIC files are decoded here in any modern browser, including Chrome, Firefox and Edge on Windows. You will see a brief 'decoding HEIC' message while each file is read, then it converts like any other image.
Why are my iPhone photos saved as HEIC?
Apple switched to HEIC because it stores roughly the same quality as JPG in about half the space. The trade-off is that most non-Apple software cannot open it, which is why converting to JPG or PNG is so common.
