Markedfile Alternatives and Comparisons
Markedfile adds an invisible, forensic mark to images and PDFs, and to short video on Pro (up to 2 minutes, 5 active) and longer video on Business and Enterprise (up to 10 minutes), so you can trace a leaked copy back to the recipient. Here is how it compares with the tools people usually look at first, and when each one is the better fit.

Markedfile vs Imatag: Invisible Watermarking Compared (2026)
Imatag is for large media teams. Markedfile is self-serve: mark an image or PDF per recipient and see whose copy leaked, starting at $0.
DocSend Alternative for Tracing Leaked Documents
DocSend shows who opened your link. It cannot tell you which copy leaked once someone takes a screenshot. Here is how the two differ and how to use them together.
Steg.AI vs Markedfile: Forensic Watermarking for Small Teams
Steg.AI and Markedfile both hide a unique mark in each copy of a file to trace leaks. Here is how they differ on scope, pricing and setup, and which fits a small team.
EchoMark Alternatives for Document Leak Tracing
EchoMark is an enterprise-grade forensic watermarking platform for email, documents, images and screens. Here is what it does, what it costs publicly, and when a lighter tool is the better fit for a small team.
Digimarc Alternatives for Creators and Small Businesses
Digimarc is a long-established watermarking company focused on copyright, provenance and authenticity at scale. Here is what Validate does, what it costs publicly, and when a lighter tool that traces which copy leaked is the better fit.
Leakless Alternative: Takedowns vs Tracing Who Leaked
Leakless finds leaked creator content across the web and files DMCA takedowns for you. Markedfile marks each copy so you can tell which recipient leaked it. Here is how they differ and when to use each, or both.
LeakCatch Alternative: Two Ways to Trace Who Leaked Your Content
LeakCatch watermarks every subscriber's download through a verified delivery link and adds DMCA monitoring. Markedfile marks images and PDFs you send any way you like, without storing them. Here is how they compare.
When Markedfile is the right fit
- You want to mark an image or a PDF for each recipient and start today, without a sales conversation. Imatag, EchoMark and Digimarc are built for larger programs.
- You send the file yourself and need to know which copy leaked, not only who opened a link. DocSend records the visit. Markedfile marks the file.
- You do not need a portal to deliver the file. LeakCatch marks downloads that go through its own link. Markedfile marks images and PDFs you send any way you like, and it does not store them.
When it is not
- You need to find copies already on the web and ask for them to be taken down. Leakless and LeakCatch do that. Markedfile does not search the web or send takedown notices.
- You need to watermark email or a whole screen, or video beyond 10 minutes and 100 MB. EchoMark, Imatag and Digimarc cover that wider scope. Markedfile marks images and PDFs on every plan. Pro includes up to 5 active videos, each up to 2 minutes and 20 MB. Business and Enterprise include longer video, up to 10 minutes and 100 MB, downloaded as MP4, and the API.
What detection can and cannot do
- Detection is never guaranteed.
- Measured PNG floors, with several active files, are best effort: a detailed photo from 224 pixels on a side, a flat diagram from 192 pixels except one alignment that still misses, and flat gray or near-black from 120 pixels. A blotchy texture needs about 256 pixels. A 208-pixel photo and that 192-pixel alignment still miss. Images smaller than 128×128 pixels and video frames smaller than 96×96 pixels are not accepted.
- A screenshot or photo of a PDF page is best effort and is not guaranteed. Upload the PDF file when you have it.
- Most 90° rotations of an image still detect.
- The API is on the Business and Enterprise plans: POST /api/v1/mark and POST /api/v1/detect. It accepts video on those plans, up to 10 minutes and 100 MB.
Mark a copy before you send it
Start on the Free plan, or use Business when the whole team shares one workspace. Enterprise is a custom quote.
