How to use Position Size Calculator
Enter account equity, risk percent, entry, and stop-loss. Read dollar risk, position size in coins, and notional. Pair with liquidation math if you use leverage.
Example: risking 1% of a $10,000 account
Your account is $10,000, you risk 1% per trade, you enter BTC at $60,000 and place a stop at $58,800.
- Dollars at risk = $10,000 × 1% = $100
- Stop distance = $60,000 − $58,800 = $1,200
- Position size = $100 ÷ $1,200 = 0.08333 BTC
The position is worth $5,000 (50% of the account), yet a stop-out loses only $100. This ignores fees and slippage.
Formula & methodology
risk$ = equity × (risk%/100). size = risk$ / |entry − stop|. notional = size × entry. Assumes the stop is hit cleanly before fees and slippage.
Size a crypto trade from account risk
Position sizing answers how many coins you can buy so a planned stop loses only a chosen percent of equity. That is more useful than guessing a round lot from vibes.
Keep risk percent modest (many discretionary traders use 0.5–2%). Wide stops need smaller size; tight stops allow more coins but get stopped more often.
After you size, open the liquidation calculator for leveraged books and the fee break-even tool if round-trip costs eat the first move.
