About BugShield

WordPress maintenance should be easy.

BugShield is a WordPress support and maintenance service that fixes faults and looks after websites for small businesses, WooCommerce shops and agencies.

Founded by Neil McNaught, BugShield brings developer help, backups, monitoring and a clear record of the work into one place for each website.

What BugShield does

Get a specific problem fixed, or hand over the ongoing care that keeps your website ready for customers.

One-off WordPress fixes

Get help with a broken checkout, plugin conflict, login problem or other WordPress fault, with confirmed quotes from £49.99. A developer investigates the issue and keeps the conversation and completed work in your site workspace.

Monitoring and recovery

Both maintenance plans monitor your site around the clock and keep off-site backups. Health checks and alerts help you spot problems, while recovery points give you a way back when a change goes wrong.

Secure access and a shared work history

The encrypted Password Vault keeps credentials with the website they belong to. Fix requests, developer chat and activity history sit alongside them, so you can follow the work without searching through separate messages.

What makes BugShield different

Clear choices about cost, access and support make it easier to decide who should look after your site.

Monthly plans without a long-term contract

Cancel a BugShield maintenance plan from your account, with care continuing until the end of the paid billing period. For comparison, FixRunner publishes a three-month minimum for its care plans, alongside a 30-day money-back guarantee.

A clear allowance of fixes

Shield Light includes 2 fixes each month, while Shield Pro covers unlimited eligible fixes. You can choose the level of ongoing help your site needs, or agree a price for one specific repair before paying.

Keep the hosting you already use

You do not need to move your WordPress website to use BugShield. Maintenance and repairs work alongside your existing hosting, so getting help does not require a migration.

Speak directly with your developer

Developer chat stays beside the fix request, from investigation through to completion. You can explain what you are seeing, answer questions and follow progress in the same place.

One workspace for each website

Each domain has its own fixes, credentials, monitoring, backups and work history. If you manage several sites, that separation helps you find the right information and see what has changed on each one.

Who uses BugShield

Built for people whose website matters to their work, whether they manage one domain or several client sites.

For example, football travel publisher Away Games uses Shield Pro for ongoing technical care.

  • Small businesses that rely on WordPress enquiries, bookings or contact forms and need developer help without hiring in-house.
  • WooCommerce shop owners who need working checkouts, payments and order emails, with ongoing care for a busy store.
  • Agencies and freelancers maintaining several client websites who need separate credentials, requests and work histories for each site.
  • Publishers and content-led businesses that want to keep creating while someone looks after updates, security and recovery.

The team behind BugShield

Neil McNaught, founder of BugShield

Neil McNaught

Founder of BugShield

Software engineer and WordPress developer

More than 10 years working with WordPress clients and more than five years maintaining their sites.

Why I created BugShield

I have worked with WordPress clients for more than 10 years. Over that time, I learned that most website owners do not want to become WordPress developers. They want to know their site is being looked after and that somebody capable is there when it needs attention.

Maintaining sites for more than five years made the gap even clearer. Clicking an update button is the easy part. The real work is preparing safely, checking the result, noticing problems early, keeping a dependable backup and taking responsibility for putting things right.

Yet the information owners need is often split across hosting accounts, monitoring tools, email threads and technical reports. It can be hard to see what changed, what has been checked or who is responsible when something fails.

I created BugShield to bring those moving parts together. The aim was simple from the beginning: make WordPress maintenance easy to understand, easy to manage and easy to get help with.

WordPress maintenance should be easy.

Today, customers work directly with a WordPress developer through their fix requests. The workspace keeps that human support connected to the monitoring, backups and history of each site.

How BugShield works

  1. Add your website and choose the help you need

Create an account, register your WordPress site and request a one-off fix or choose a maintenance plan. For a repair, describe the problem and any recent changes so we can confirm the scope and price.

  2. Share access securely

Store the WordPress and hosting credentials needed for the work in the Password Vault. For ongoing care, follow the plugin connection steps to bring your site's monitoring and backups into the dashboard.

  3. Work with a WordPress developer

Use the fix request's chat to speak with the developer handling the work and follow its status. Subscriber support is available in the dashboard, while general enquiries can go through our contact form or email.

  4. Follow the response and completed work

We guarantee a human response within 60 minutes, 24/7, for every customer, with or without a maintenance plan. One-off paid bug fixes: fixed within 24 hours once we have confirmed the job and received the access and details needed to begin, or your money back. We still fix the bug. Your request keeps the conversation and outcome together for later reference.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Who founded BugShield?

Neil McNaught founded BugShield after more than 10 years working with WordPress clients and more than five years maintaining their sites. He created the service to make maintenance easier to understand and give site owners a clear place to get help.

Can I get a WordPress fix without a subscription?

Yes. One-off fixes start at £49.99, with the scope and price confirmed before you pay. You can request a repair without taking out a monthly maintenance plan.

What is the difference between Shield Light and Shield Pro?

Shield Light costs £99 per site per month and includes 2 fixes, weekly backups and monitoring. Shield Pro costs £199 per site per month and includes unlimited eligible fixes, daily and on-demand backups, malware care and priority support.

Do I need to move my website hosting?

No. BugShield works with your existing WordPress website and hosting provider. You can add ongoing care or request a repair without moving the site.

How quickly will my WordPress problem be fixed?

We guarantee a human response within 60 minutes, 24/7, for every customer, with or without a maintenance plan. For a paid one-off bug fix, the 24-hour guarantee starts once we have confirmed the job and received all the access and details needed to begin. If the agreed issue is not fixed within 24 elapsed hours from that point, we refund the full fix price and still fix the bug at no extra charge. Maintenance-plan fixes are excluded from this money-back offer.

Can BugShield support more than one website?

Yes, you can register several WordPress websites in one account. Each site has its own workspace, credentials, requests and work history, with maintenance plans priced per site.

How should I share WordPress login details?

Use the encrypted BugShield Password Vault to store credentials against the relevant site. This keeps access connected to the correct website and sensitive login details out of ordinary support messages.

Can I cancel a maintenance plan?

Yes, monthly plans have no long-term contract and can be cancelled from your account. Your plan stays active until the end of the billing period you have already paid for.
