Council is delivering a main street upgrade on Railside Avenue, Bargo to improve parking, pedestrian access and drainage near the existing rest area. Works include upgraded roadside parking, a new footpath, a traffic refuge island and drainage improvements to support safer access and better use of the town centre.

Railside Avenue, Bargo is undergoing a major upgrade and it is progressing well. Current status includes:
The majority of the scoped work is now complete. Some landscaping is still to come and the completion of some drainage work. The site is being tidied for over the next few days in preparation for ANZAC Day.
This section of Railside Avenue sits across from Bargo’s main food and shopping area and has historically been used as a rest stop. It is also a common stopping point for tourists, caravan travellers and truck drivers passing through Wollondilly.
The upgrade aims to encourage more people to park in the centre of Bargo and help activate the town centre. A new footpath will also provide a safer walking route to the main street.
What the project includes:
New footpath from Panorama Street to Bargo Train Station (rail side)
Drainage works, including kerb and gutter where required
Formalised car parking from Panorama Street to Bargo Train Station
Shoulder upgrade from Bargo Station to opposite Nooral Street
Benefits for residents and visitors include:
Parking spaces for regular vehicles and heavy vehicles
Improved convenience for travellers
Support for local tourism and local businesses
This project is funded through the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grant. The project scope and requirements have been costed and finalised.
