[edit]@Popperipopp: FYI we have the ID in WD as exact match (P2888) in see query < 985
- MISC
- Test API version 2.0 T234889
- T200668 Set up Nobel Data as federated search with Wikidata
- SPARQL Federation using Listeria
- tweet Hans to see if we can create weblinks just using this id Nobel Laureate API ID (P8024). We have before spoken about that its today a mess see my blog
FYI I have had some contact with Hans Melin and dont hesitate to contact me ++46705937579 - Salgo60 (talk) 13:23, 27 March 2020 (UTC)
- I started a quickstatement batch 27314 .... SPARQL query, query2 = 944 - Salgo60 (talk) 14:14, 27 March 2020 (UTC)
- Great with the quickstatement batch! Popperipopp (talk) 11:34, 29 March 2020 (UTC)
New linking model proposed based on the ID
[edit]We got the following suggestion from the Nobelprize.org people that I feel is a step in the right direction of easier linking people see also T248939
Hi! We can provide you with one url to link to for each id and we may foward to that persons/organizations page if one prize, and > present a list of Prizes if more than one. There are at least two ways: We can use the current API with links as https://api.nobelprize.org/2.0/laureate/6 and you provide a flag to get a redirect instead of a json return. Or we can create a bespoke url for you like https://www.nobelprize.org/laureates/6 that only perform this task. The first one may be more in line with our future LOD model, but the latter one may be easier for you. Let me know what you think and what you need and I can setup a test for you. / Hans Yours sincerely, Nobelprize.org Team
cc: @Popperipopp, Larske: any comments/thoughts....

- Harmonizing the identifiers would be excellent. I have no additional thoughts on this. Popperipopp (talk) 11:47, 20 April 2020 (UTC)
Version 1 is now implemented for creating links in Wikipedia using Nobel Laureate API ID (P8024)
[edit]see also T251055 "Template Nobelprize winners Wikidata property P8024 and new link model to Nobelprize.org"
ping people involved in this and the deletion discussion of P3188 that I guess should be deleted now...
@Popperipopp, Larske, Sturban, ArthurPSmith, Trivialist, VIGNERON:@Daniel_Mietchen, Pigsonthewing, Thierry_Caro: We can now use the id in Nobel Laureate API ID (P8024) for linking to Nobelprize.org
Background: We have had problems with link rot in Wikipedia when the target is the Nobel prize web. Also creating links from Wikidata was not possible. The Nobel prize web has done a lot of design changes and restructured the web --> Wikipedia got even more problems linking or maintain a Wikidata property like P3188 (P3188)
- e.g. Albert Einstein (Q937) has an article in 209 languages / abt. 56 000 daily views and I guess many of those languages links the www.nobelprize.org web --> when a design change is done in www.nobelprize.org its not easy to maintain all those Wikipedia links ...
I did 2019-feb an overview of how many pages are linked and discussed this with Hans at Nobelprize.org and we saw both the problem, when Popperipopp suggested Nobel Laureate API ID (P8024) and it was approved I suggested to Hans if they could have an solution that would make it easier for Wikipedia to maintain links and maybe use the new unique ID they have in Nobel prize API version 2.0.
Solution: the Nobelprize API version 2.0 has an unique id per Nobel Laureate that Wikidata store in Nobel Laureate API ID (P8024). The Nobelprize IT department will now maintain a redirect to a landing page e.g. Albert Einstein (Q937) is ID 26 -->
- we will have https://www.nobelprize.org/laureate/26 for a html page
- https://www.nobelprize.org/laureate/26?format=json for a json page
- List of all objects in Wikidata with Nobel Laureate API ID (P8024)
- Next step I guess is to create templates on all languages that would like to implement this see T251055
- I guess candidates are templates using P3188 (P3188) see Template:Nobelprize (Q26882253)
- a version 1 of a template has been created on sv:Wikipedia see Template:Nobelprize (Q91652187) using property Nobel Laureate API ID (P8024)
- Nota bene we have Marie Curie (Q7186) with id 6 that has received it two times then its solved by adding an extra page see https://www.nobelprize.org/laureate/6
Summary: please give feedback I guess this is version 1 and I feel this solution will not solve everything But I think its a good pattern that we have an dialogue with an organisation like Nobelprize.org to find an solution that hopefully will do something that both the Wikipedia community and the Nobel prize people will benefit of.
Any advice how to push this message out to all 205 Wikipedia languages are welcome and help with creating templates in local languages. I did a small exercise linking 160 000 people in Europeana with Wikidata and then lesson learned pushing this out on more Wikipedia language versions is not easy see report
- Template using this Template:Nobelprize (Q91652187)
- Category created to track usage Category:Nobelprize template using Wikidata property P8024 (Q91672712)
see also Task T251055 - Salgo60 (talk) 22:10, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Salgo60: Thanks for engaging with the organization, it would definitely be good for every similar organization to try to provide stable id's and API's like this. I don't have any advice on templates or engaging the language wikipedias though, sorry. ArthurPSmith (talk) 12:19, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
- @ArthurPSmith: its an excellent pattern that we delegate the responsibility for the linking to the people at Nobelprize.org and I can also see new possibilities that the Nobelprize people easily can link an application like Scholia just using the Nobel Laureate API ID (P8024) id. Pushing this concept out on 200 languages is not so easy I guess we need Denny next version of Wikidata even if this task is based on components like templates and Wikidata its some lines that needs to be in local language and you need to explain for people not used to create templates and its not easy in a loosely coupled network see task T251055 ;-) - Salgo60 (talk) 06:20, 28 April 2020 (UTC)
