I ordered a OptiBeam HF Directional…

After contacting DX earlier today they advised that they were cancelling the order and issuing a chargeback. Will finally give them credit for this. Just wish they had agreed to do this before. Just don't like thinking I have been taken advantage of after spending more than $3500 over the past couple months there.

I ordered a OptiBeam HF Directional Antennas OB11-3HD and 125 feet of DXE-213URC125 with Amphenol 83-1SP Ends on morning of July 6th 2026. The ship date for both were July 7th. The antenna arrived July 10th as scheduled. On the morning of the 9th the coax had not shipped so I did an on-line request to cancel that order because the same thing was available locally at HRO. Within a few minutes of requesting the cancellation I received a call and was told the item was going to be shipped that morning and they would upgrade it to overnight delivery. The order said that my credit card would not be charged until the order was shipped. I checked on the 9th and the charge had already been completed. Today is the 11th and the item has still not shipped. If they had been truthful and told me the actual estimated ship date when I ordered the item and on the 9th when they called I would not be writing this review. I am going to request another cancellation and request a chargeback. I have purchased other items from the company and did not have any major issues. Either way, if they allow the cancelation and chargeback or they force me to accept the product no matter what the ship date, I will never do business with DX Engineering again and I will advise others not to so. All they had to do was be truthful/honest but they chose not to do so. Avoid doing business with this company.

Broken Promises

**Broken Promises, Missed Commitments, and Weak Excuses**
⭐ (1 star)

I have been a licensed amateur radio operator for over 50 years and a DX Engineering customer for many of those years. I expected better.

I placed an order and was explicitly promised a tracking number by a specific evening, with assurance that my order would ship that night. Neither happened. No tracking number. No shipment confirmation. No proactive communication of any kind — despite being told by Tim Duffy (K3LR), a senior figure at the company, that the team was already "in contact" with me and "doing everything possible." They were not. I had to reach out myself to find that out.

When pressed, I was essentially told that once an order is in, they have no control over shipping. I find that difficult to accept. Every major vendor has escalation paths, carrier contacts, and the ability to advocate for a customer when a commitment has been missed. "We can't control shipping" is not a resolution — it's a deflection. If you make a promise about a ship date and tracking number, you own that promise regardless of which carrier is involved.

What troubles me most is not the delay itself — logistics problems happen — but the gap between what was promised and what was delivered, and the lack of urgency in making it right.

I hope DX Engineering takes this seriously. Until demonstrated otherwise, I would strongly advise prospective customers to get all shipping commitments in writing before ordering.

Exemplary customer service going above and beyond

My recent purchase of a DX Commander Venture could have gone smoother. Through no fault of DX Engineering, my purchase was not delivered. My antenna was 'lost' at FedEx (who told me to contact the shipper for options). After a very brief phone call, customer service immediately sent another antenna and took the helm with FedEx on the missing shipment. Their quick response and understanding are what make this organization stand out!! I will buy again from DX Engineering without question.

Great company

I recently purchased a compactenna and magnet mount. The site was easy to use and purchase was smooth. Delivery was quick and when I received my purchases, inside was some swag stickers and a nice, magazine style product catalog with pricing. Nice touch. Will be customer for life. Thank you.

Bad service

Purchased a Icom HF radio from them,It was faulty.Customer service was very poor they did not reply to most of my emails & when they did they blamed me & my shack gear for the problem. After a long wait I sent the radio to Icom service centre who confirmed the issue in writing.Returned the radio to them and after two weeks nothing from them so i esculated to PAYPAL who found in my favour & returned my payment.Very stressful experience & ONE SHOP I WILL NEVER PURCHASE FROM EVER AGAIN.

I recently purchased an Acom 500S and have a CAT issue with the FT-991A and your tech support is non-existent.

I recently purchased an Acom 500S and Acom 06AT tuner, as well as 2, FT-991A xcvrs. Ameritron amps, MFJ power supply and many peripherals. I cannot get the new Acom 500S to talk to the 991A. After 3 calls to DX Eng. tech support noone even tried to give me an answer to the problem. If I were Acom, I would question Dx Eng's capability to be a dealer. So far I have talked to Yaesu and DX Eng. 3 times and no solution to the CAT issue. I now have a ticket open with Acom. DX Eng....for all of the money I have spent with you, it is VERY DISAPPOINTING THAT YOU TECH SUPPORT IS NON EXISTENT. TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN!! I've probably spent $20k over the recent years with you and am now seeing you are all about the sales and not about the support to your customers.

Excellent Customer Service

I have ordered from DX Enginering twice now and I am extremely pleased with the fast shipments. I can count on my order going out the same day ordered. Technical support is excellent too.

OUTSTANDING

Being a new Ham, I have called on these folks several times and they are always extremely helpful. They don't try to up-sale, they answer the questions. They are polite and give several suggestions.
Their customer service is also outstanding.
If you need equipment or answers, these folks should be at the top of your to call list!!!!!

Several Great Experiences

Came here after realizing I've had only great experiences with DXE. I feel like most people only write reviews after bad experiences, but I wanted to share a good recent one where I (suspected I) had a bad coil with a new portable antenna. They shipped me a whole new antenna with coil which was very generous. They called me on the phone and had a great human touch.

I've since bought some HT antennas and a radio from them and will continue to send as much of my "new gear" business their way.

These people will sell your email information! You will get nasty junk mail!

I needed something from this website, so I had my beautiful wife buy what I needed with her information. Though the shipping and product was received well, they sold her contact information to spammers that are now sending her information for erectile enhancers and other nasty things. My young son and I are ham operators and I'm definitely not going to let him buy things from here.

The go-to source for Ham radio equipment!

I discovered Trust pilot while looking at something else and thought I’d put in a good word. I’ve been purchasing from DXE for at least the last 10 years and have always had a good experience purchasing from them, much better than the “other guys”. Their DX engineering brand of components are well designed and solid construction. Thanks guys! Roy, N9APL

Excellent company to deal with-…

Excellent company to deal with- customer service is exceptional! DX has a very knowledgeable staff and didn't try to upsell me on anything. They were also polite and friendly! Shipping costs were reasonable, (priority mail to small town in Alaska) products shipped quickly and arrived well packaged in thick, bubble wrap, and double boxed in thick cardboard, securely taped. Products are quality, well made from solid materials and look like they'll last a long time! Troy and Dale work for Tech Support and will answer any question you have- both super smart and know their products. Give this company a try-they're awesome!
