Seamless & Hassle Free Experience

I was always skeptical about AHS but decided to give them a chance and I’m so glad I did. Just a few months after signing up for AHS coverage my dryer stopped working. The process to get it fixed through AHS was seamless and hassle free. Truly a 5 star experience! I’d highly recommend to anyone who may be a skeptic like I used to be. They actually provide the service they advertise without any gimmicks or hoops to jump through. Thanks, AHS!

I had a leak from a pipe connected to…

I had a leak from a pipe connected to my toilet that did damage to my dry wall. I placed a service request but after seven days it was not assigned a service pro. Upon calling I was informed that I could find my own plumber as long as it was not on the unauthorized list. After finding a plumber who was authorized and having them come and fix the leak, I was informed that since I did not use one of their recommended plumber but instead used my own, the damage to the drywall would not be covered unless I got the plumber to fix. When I attempted to inform the customer service representative that I had spent two hours on hold to speak with that a plumber does not fix drywall, she attempted to convince me that a plumber and a drywall contractor were the same thing. For the money that I had been spending monthly for this service I must say that I did not get my money's worth out of this company and will be switching to a different home warrant company and would encourage everyone to avoid this company at all costs.

They would not deliver on the AC Tune-up

I scheduled my AC Tune-up in March. The contractor they assigned cancelled on me in April, again in June, then stopped taking my calls and answering voicemails. Now AHS has cancelled my AC Tune-up service request entirely because it's past the 'promotional time'. I called and they said there is nothing they can do about it, I am screwed, no AC Tune-up for me. This is not the first time they have been unable to deliver on this either. I hope my AC breaks down entirely because of lack of service and they have to spend thousands of dollars on a new unit, it would serve them right!

Value Beyond the Monthly Payment

American Home Shield (AHS) has provided me with reliable service for over a decade, in two of my houses, covering plumbing, water heating, and central heating and air-conditioning issues. AHS has replaced a water heater and covered other substantial repairs to date, making the plan an excellent value. Most recently, AHS dispatched NW Sundance Services for an active leak under my kitchen sink; the technician diagnosed and repaired it in a single visit. I like that AHS acts as the middleman between me and these service companies, because dealing with a contractor directly — even when money is no issue — leaves me nowhere to go if a dispute can't be resolved. I run my own background check on each assigned contractor, and their state licensing records have always been excellent; AHS never fails to deliver a legitimate company. That turns the monthly payment from a straight cost-of-services calculation into something worth more: peace of mind.

False promises - Bait and Switch

This company promoted a home warranty plan that the included up to $5000 for HVAC and free freon at their platinum plan. Purchased the platinum plan and found out that they lied. It was a bait and switch, they offered 50% off the premium plan but what they really sold was the gold plan. (and then said they had no record of ever offering that)
The gold plan only accounts for $10 a pound for freon which is $150 a pound. The premium plan is free.
But the experiences as revealed by others on this site in July postings mirror my own. I got the plan in May. Just went to use it, put in a request for service, 48 hours past no HVAC tech calls.. Had to call them at 72 hours.. and remind them of their own policy timelines on arranging service. The technician is another 48 hours. Mind you 100 degrees in Denver. The company is being run out of the Philippines, the people you speak with have a script, they are not deviating. Buyer beware, sales, customer service and billing is all managed out of the Philippines.
They quickly decided they needed to deny the claim and it would not have mattered if I had the Platinum or the gold plan.
Counter to all of their marketing promotion they wont save you money, it will cost you more than if you just got a service technician out.
Now I see that they are actively denying peoples claims. Honestly this has cost me $200 for absolutely nothing but WE CANT HELP YOU but if you want to upgrade plan now you can use that in the future. SERIOUSLY?? NO THANKS

First claim I made was closed without a repair being made and I was just sent a review link but no information or follow up on my actual repair. Only days later after me calling did they mention my AC handler springing a leak around a seal that failed is not covered. Not helpful at all. Flooded with links for good reviews but no actual messaging concerning my service. They closed the request the moment the tech left my home. I also cannot find an easy way to cancel my plan. After it took a month to even get a declaration from AHS showing my actual plan in the first place after purchasing it.

AHS needs to change policies!

AHS wasn’t bad, in fact I was giving it good reviews and trying to get friends and family to sign up! Well I recently needed to have my AC serviced and everything went downhill due to a technician that reported something he didn’t say when he was at my home! I have the Sheild Platinum! The highest one! He reported a part was missing but told my husband and I he had to replace it! Everything went so downhill from there! How AHS handles the receiving of the reports and the expediting of them definitely needs to change! The wait time is awful! Some policies need to change! My family has spent over a thousand dollars due to hotel stays because it was 91 plus degrees in my home!!! Change is needed!

Sad state of relationship

Had a project that was reviewed by plumbing company and was disappointed with analysis. Talked with AHS and they gave me the AHS speech but I was not satisfied. I had to pay the contract fee even though the work was not done, only an analysis of project. All I asked was for a simple faucet to be taken care of (replaced as I paid for faucet). Since plumbing company stated that they needed to remove vanity and issues with faucet, it would cost more than AHS was will to pay. Talked with customer but they said it was policy of AHS about review of plumbing company analysis that they could not pay for service. They informed me that the service charge of $100 was taken out of my account to pay for the plumber to come out and analyze the job. I have never had this occur to me in the almost 20 years with AHS. On top of that, the expedient department told me the same thing that I had to pay the service fee because plumber came out. Worst as I was trying to get some kind of understanding, I was hung up on. This is not a good thing from a service company I have been with for a long time. Makes you think about staying with them or changing. Customer Service is very important and I told them I can't remember them ever charging without project being worked on. AHS, check on your Customer Service Department. I started out at $50 per service call when we first started and now $100 to not have project worked on.

20-Year Customer. Systemic Fraud & Extortion.

I was a loyal customer for nearly 20 years back when this company actually covered what broke. Today, American Home Shield is just a mechanism to extort out-of-pocket fees and shield fraudulent contractors.

Here is exactly what your premium buys you:

Contractor Theft: AHS sent a water remediation contractor for a flooded room. AHS refused to cover the plumbing. The assigned contractor demanded a $2,000 cash payment, took the money, and completely abandoned the job. AHS ignored six separate phone calls to rectify their contractor's theft.

Price Gouging: My garage AC died. AHS took two weeks to dispatch a tech, only to demand an arbitrary $1,000 out-of-pocket fee for "uncovered" repairs. I hired an independent tech who fixed the exact same issue in 24 hours for 25% of the cost AHS demanded.

Property Destruction: An AHS technician broke a functioning refrigerator beyond repair while trying to fix a minor ice maker issue. AHS refused to cover the actual replacement cost of the unit their tech destroyed, offering a fraction of the value and forcing me to absorb the loss.

Hostage Cancellations: When you finally quit, expect a 60-minute gauntlet of retention agents who refuse to close your account until you threaten state regulatory action.

Do not give this company your credit card. You are better off putting your monthly premium into a savings account and hiring local professionals.

Absolutely not worth it

Absolutely not worth it. Everything with this company is difficult. Almost a month now they wont fix my hot water heater. Now they are saying its on me to find a company that will fix it or it wont get fixed. They wont replace it either. They bounced it back and forth between a plumbing company and an hvac company for weeks because it s hybrid water heater. And they won't commit to reimbursement if i do find my own contractor. Stay away from this scam of a company.

Do Not Trust AHS!

Our 2018 Maytag Double Door Refrigerator (with ice maker) was checked out today, by a technician who was sent by AHS. Our ice maker has stopped working, and the wires at the bottom of the freezer door are exposed and breaking from our refrigerator doors being opened and closed for the past 8 years. The repair guy said that our water dispenser and display would also eventually fail, and that the entire freezer door needs to be replaced. He told us that our model has had a manufacturing defect and what we were experiencing is a very common issue. Very soon after he left, AHS denied our claim. They said that the damage to the wires were caused by our freezer door being "overextended," that we were at fault, and that the damage was not considered to be "normal wear and tear" FOR AN 8 YEAR OLD REFRIGERATOR!
Funny that it's only happened to one door over the past 8 years, and we open our right side more than the freezer. They also originally labeled our claim as "Refrigerator (with freezer)," but then cancelled that and put "Refrigerator" (photo attached). They keep telling me that the temperatures inside the unit are still at the correct levels, so basically the fridge is still doing what it's meant to do. It's not doing what its meant to do if they had kept the work order as "Refrigerator (with ice maker)." We haven't seen any written notes from the Accord Appliance place, which has horrible reviews BTW, because AHS uses them and then keeps denying customers' claims.

The repair place also has extremely poor customer service, but AHS forces customers to use the company, or pay another service fee for a second opinion. We'd like for our refrigerator door to be replaced, or for AHS to pay out the $2,000 maximum for a new one, which is over $2,000. We pay for the Gold Plan, and still get cheated. I have a feeling that the technicians get paid out by these warranty companies to either lie, or keep quiet. AHS needs to be investigated, as well as their service providers.

Update: Less than 24 hours later, our claim status went from "Denied" to "Service Complete," with "Repair" being marked with a green checkmark. What a LIE! It has NOT been repaired or resolved.

Fan motor went out on AC

Fan motor went out on AC, they sent a contractor out to survey. Contractor submitted that the motor locked up and needed replacing, AHS denied the claim and said it was secondary damage. They wouldn't say what that meant. They look for ways to deny all claims. I've had them out on 3 different occasions and all 3 were denied.
Absolute waste of money. Would definitely not recommend these frauds.
