Relationships
What is a Server?
• A server is a computer or system that
provides resources, services, or data to
other computers (clients) over a
network.
• Servers are centralized resources
and usually operate 24/7.
Examples: File Server, Web Server,
Database Server, Mail Server Diagram showing a server

Summary
• Servers are critical for network operations
and services.
• Server management ensures efficiency,
security, and uptime.
• Different servers have different types and
functions but work together to provide
services to clients.
• Proper server management includes
installation, monitoring, updates,
backups, and troubleshooting.

Module1 - Q3 -1 -Server Management – Types,
Functions, and Relationships
Part C – Short Answer
11. Name three types of servers and their primary functions.
File Server – stores and shares files, Web Server –hosts websites, Database Server – manages and processes database queries
12. List three key tasks involved in server management.
Installation & configuration of servers, Monitoring server performance, Backup and recovery of data
(Other acceptable answers: user account management, applying updates and patches, troubleshooting hardware/software)
13. Explain the relationship between a web server and a database server.
A web server delivers web pages to clients, while the database server stores and retrieves data required by the web server.
They communicate to provide dynamic content.
14. Why is server management important for organizations?
Ensures network stability & performance, Protects data & resources, Minimizes downtime, Improves security & user access
control
15. Give two examples of tools used in server management.
* Windows Server Manager, * Active Directory, * Nagios, Zabbix, PRTG, *Veeam, Acronis
