EXACTIVE SUMMARY

This report examines and chronicles the spectrum of activities undertaken throughout the
internship at FUNDI BOTS MBALE branch.

The report offers an intricate analysis of the internship period, elucidating its objectives,
hurdles encountered, benefits reaped, and providing actionable recommendations to address
any challenges faced.

ix
Spanning a span of six weeks, the internship encompassed a diverse array of activities,
primarily concentrated on translating theoretical technological acumen into hands-on
proficiency within the realm of software development. The focal points of this immersion
included orientation and analysis, design, coding, testing, and deployment.

Additionally, the internship went beyond the digital sphere, cultivating skills in electronics
and mechanics. The application of SolidWorks was used for mechanical design, while the
development of a Bluetooth Floor Controlled Robot an Arduino board underscored the
intersection of innovation and practicality. Moreover, the creative endeavor of crafting a
functional fan from cardboard material further showcased the integration of ingenuity and
resourcefulness.

Throughout this period, the engagement was not without challenges. However, these
challenges have not only served as hurdles but as catalysts for growth and learning.

x
CHAPTER ONE: INTRODUCATION

1.0 Introduction.
The Internship Program is designed with the purpose of enabling students to seamlessly
transition theoretical knowledge acquired during their academic journey into practical
applications. This chapter acts as an introduction to the internship program, giving insights
into its context, objectives, scope, as well as providing a comprehensive overview of the
organization's background and structure.

1.1 Objectives of the industrial training

 To develop a fundamental understanding of mechanical principles and their

application in creating functional devices and prototypes. Acquire hands-on
experience in designing and assembling mechanical components for robotics and other
projects.
 To get practical knowledge of electronic components, circuits, and systems. Learn to
design, build, and troubleshoot electronic circuits used in various projects, with a
focus on robotics and automation.
 To Foster an entrepreneurial mindset by learning about project management, resource
allocation, budgeting, and strategic planning. Gain insight into how innovative ideas
can be turned into viable projects and ventures.
 To enhance interpersonal skills, teamwork, and effective communication in a
professional work environment. Develop the ability to collaborate with colleagues,
mentors, and team members to achieve common goals.
 To develop proficiency in programming languages commonly used in robotics and
automation, such as Arduino programming. Gain hands-on experience in writing,
debugging, and optimizing code for controlling devices and creating automation
solutions.
 To apply theoretical knowledge acquired in academic settings to real-world scenarios.
Gain practical experience in designing, building, testing, and refining technological
solutions, bridging the gap between theory and application.

Scope of the internship

 This enables to apply my knowledge back taught into more practice to work on
organization and company staff
 It enables me to develop skills and ability that support my professional studies and
prepare me for responsibilities for daily working in the outside world.
 Also enables to have enough experience and confidence in my carrier

11
 It is very important as theory in generally study of computer technology to put
theory into practice is the good way to help student to understand clear the subject
in the both sides.

1.2 Location and description of place field attachment

Fundi Bots as an organization started in 2011 by Solomon King Benge as a hobby project to
help students understand science through robotics.
Activities during this time were focused primarily on talks, presentations, and demonstration

Weekly tasks and activities accomplished

Introduction
Madam Catherine introduced us to the fundi bots team members, different offices
around the company building. We also had a chance to see some of the already worked
projects which were made by the previous fundis. Madam Catherine took us through the
different sessions which we handled throughout the internship training i.e. Electronics,
programming and mechanics. And also, employability skills such as email writing, report
writing, interview skills, communication, personal branding, managing personal finances and
entrepreneurial context.

Email Writing:
We started by listing what the email must contain to qualify to be a good mail i.e. subject line;
should convey main point of your message, should be specific. Salutation/greetings; e.g.
Hello Joan, message/body; this contains the content of the email and the detailed purpose of
your email, closings; end email in the polite way e.g. warm regards. We Conducted exercises
and workshops to refine email communication skills, emphasizing clarity, conciseness, and
professionalism.

Report Writing:
We hosted training sessions on effective report writing techniques where we
14
looked at elements of a good report, covering structure of report i.e. title,
introduction, activities, achievements, challenges, recommendation and
conclusion, content organization, and clarity of communication.

Technical project presentation:

Mr. Dickens taught us technical project presentation where we handled
different types of projects. For example. research and development projects.
We looked at what project building contains e.g. ideation, tools, and skills, human and testing.
Justification/significance
Methodology
Tools/software
Budget
Conclusion. Which includes lessons learnt, challenges and
recommendations.

Personal Finance:
Mr. Changha Andrew gave us guidance and resources for easy and better managing
personal finances, including budgeting, savings, risk management, investment
strategies and life’s milestones.
Personal financial planning is process of managing your money to achieve personal economic
satisfaction.

Financial planning include;

evaluating one’s financial position
setting financial goals
Guiding activities and resources towards reaching those goals.

Mr. Dickens introduced us to mechanics, and we engaged in hands-on projects under his
guidance. This session was both educational and enjoyable, allowing us to apply theoretical
knowledge to practical tasks and collaborate effectively with colleagues. He taught about
shapes and introduced to the concept of mechanics and we also worked on some projects
which involved us building few shapes that I enjoyed doing with my colleagues.
The figure 2.2 below shows the installation of solid works.

Resistors and Circuit Connections:

We learned about Resistors and how they affect a circuit and their role in electronic circuits.
We then had the opportunity to connect circuits and observe their behaviour, reinforcing our
understanding of electronics principles.

16
Transistors and Circuit Connections:
We continued on connecting the transistors and see how they work and we understood their
use and their types, Madam Catherine was really educative and informative and I enjoyed her
lectures a lot.
The figure 2.3 below shows the components connected together

Introduction:
During the fourth week of our internship at Fundi Bots Mbale, we engaged in diverse learning
sessions encompassing Arduino programming, SolidWorks, and an introduction to Proteus
software. These sessions were aimed at equipping us with practical skills in electronics and
mechanical design.

2.4 Work relationship between departments of the organization

22
Fundi Bots works through three main program areas that are a reflection of how, where and
when we carry out our interventions. These program areas are: Fundi @School, Fundi
@Home and Fundi @Work. Additionally, the Fundi Girls program is designed to run as a
stand-alone model that is also a thread that weaves through all the work that we do at Fundi
Bots.
Each program area contains activities that are tailored to the specific need of the community
and target audience. Each program area also maintains our two learning experiences.
Workers exhibited high level of Teamwork that they could execute duties from different departments
and interchangeably in times when there was staff shortage. Because all heads of departments
qualified in computer related courses at the university, this helped them to be able execute activities
from different departments. The supervisor was approachable and friendly that we freely interacted
and consulted him whenever there was need.

2.5 Challenges experienced by the internee and how they were handled

Introduction
In this chapter, I will describe the problems, challenges, findings, observations and
recommendations to the organization. This comes from the daily activities that were carried
