Architectural Form and Function Analysis
Architectural Form and Function Analysis
_________________________________________________________________________
FORMAL TYPOLOGIES
In architecture, one of the most important elements when designing is the sense of the
Form. The form is closely related to architectural function, which is
determined by the concept of it.
FUNCTIONAL TYPOLOGIES
The functional typology starts from the form and this directly refers to the function that the
buildings play. Here the "symbol" is combined with the "use" in the same category, due to
that a building receives a specific formal characterization due to its function. Both, form and
function, merge into a single aspect of a practical nature.
To say that form follows function is a mistake. Form and function must be one.
Frank Lloyd Wright
The functional typology is the classification according to the use of the buildings used by the
entities linked to territorial planning, such as in the case ofNational Institute of
Physical Planningthe Provincial Offices of Physical Planning and the Offices
Municipalities of Architecture and Urbanism.
Contemplan las funciones siguientes: Industria, Comercio, Salud, Educación, Deporte, Cultura,
Services, Recreation, and Housing.

• Two plants

Buildings
• Apartments in buildings
• Rooms in buildings
Citadels and barracks

The functional typology is applied in the urban cadastre carried out on plans at a scale of 1:500 or 1:1000.
of each apple with its plant reflected its lots, streets, sidewalks, and network records
techniques. In the plots, the function of the building is encoded in it called 'use of
Soil." The lots are defined, and their number of plants and detailed type of land use are indicated in
the same code, including postal code of the lots and the type of building according to its
construction and number of housing units in each one.
The plan is accompanied by a sheet and together they constitute the informational basis along with the photos.
aerials and previous information to form the parcel plan at a scale of 1:1000, the
inventories according to the type of functions in each territory and the handling of them.
This information is accessible at the Municipal Directorates of Architecture and Urbanism (DAU) and
it is a valuable contribution to the planning and project tasks. There is also a file
unique to each building in the Municipal Investment Units for Housing (UMIV),
keeping the information from all technical inspections andconstructive actionsmade
in the construction.
STRUCTURAL TYPOLOGIES
It is the science that studies the types or classes, the intuitive and conceptual difference of the forms of
model or basic shapes. Typology is widely used in terms of systematic studies
in various fields of study to define different categories.
It is the set of resistant elements, suitably linked to each other, that actuate and
they react under the effects of the loads. Their purpose is to resist and transmit the loads of the building to
the supports maintaining the architectural space, without suffering incompatible deformations. • The
the relationship between concept-form and design-structure results in an important relationship,
concept - structure. It is impossible to design the form without designing the structure.
