Previous Knowledge
Students are already aware of rough and smooth surfaces and it’s easy to walk on rough surfaces
than on to smoother ones.
Have observed the grooves at the bottom of their footwears.
Teaching Aids
Textbook, whiteboard, projector, materials to demonstrate friction in the classroom.

Introduction
Begin with questions based on everyday experiences of friction to have the attention of most of
the students.
Presentation (Step-by-step Procedure)
1. Explain the concept using examples.
2. Demonstrate with visual aids.
3. Facilitate student interaction through Q&A.
4. Guide practice activities.
Activities
1. Starter Activity – Give them small piece of butter paper and ask them to write their
name.
2. Main Activity – 1. Tie a small size brick with a thread/rope and ask them to drag. Now
wrap the brick with a plastic and ask them to drag. 2. Put a lot of powder on the carom
board and call them to play. 3. Show them two glasses one made of clay and other is
glass. Put some oil onto both the glasses and ask the students to try holding it and share
your observation.
3. Closure Activity – Rolling Friction – Ask them to roll their book on 3-4 pencils.
Recapitulation
Summarize the key points. Ask quick oral questions to check understanding.
