EXPERIMENT 3

AIM:

To prepare 100 mL of 0.1M solution of oxalic acid

THEORY:

Molecular mass of Oxalic acid (H2C2O4.2H2O) = 126 gmol–1

Hence, for preparing 100 ml of 0.1M Oxalic acid solution,

0.1 ×126 × 100

Oxalic acid required = 1000
= 1.26 g

APPARATUS:

Watch glass, 250 mL beaker, glass rod, 100 mL volumetric flask, dropper and wash
bottle.
CHEMICALS REQUIRED:

Oxalic acid and distilled water.

PROCEDURE:

1. 1.26 g of Oxalic acid is accurately weighed in a watch glass and transferred into a
clean 100 mL volumetric flask using a funnel

2. Watch glass is thoroughly washed with distilled water to transfer the sticking salt
completely into the flask. The salt is dissolved in the flask with gentle stirring.

3. Enough distilled water is added to the volumetric flask carefully up to below the
etched mark on its neck with the help of wash bottle

4. The last few drops of distilled water with a dropper until the lower level of the
meniscus just touches the mark on the volumetric flask.

5. The measuring flask is stoppered and shaken gently to make the solution
homogeneous and labelled it as 0.1M Oxalic acid solution.

RESULT:

0.1M Oxalic acid solution is prepared
