SIP Guidelines

OBJECTIVE OF SUMMER TRAINING

The primary objective of Summer Training Project is to provide a field exposure to the
students to gain practical knowledge over the theoretical principles learnt in the classroom.

It is exclusively oriented towards developing the skill, knowledge and attitude needed to
make an effective start as a member of the management profession.

The students will have to undertake projects related to the different areas of specialization
chosen by them.

Advantages to be gained during the Summer Training are:

 Understanding real life situations in organizations and their related environments, in


order to accelerate the learning process of utilizing personal knowledge in a realistic
way.
 Systematic introduction to corporate culture and development of requisite skills.
 Recognizing personal responsibilities as a professional.
 Understanding the formal and informal relationships in an organization.
 Continuous learning.
 Understanding problems and providing unique solutions.

Presentation Evaluation Details:

The presentation given by student will be evaluated on the basis of following criteria:

Understanding about the project of the students can be accessed and evaluated by checking
whether he/she is able to convince a layman as well as a professional about the project which
he/she has actually developed. It includes the following parameters:
 What is the project?
 What is it meant for?
 How is it useful?
 What kind of solutions it provides?

Thoroughness in Skill set means whether the candidate has thorough knowledge of the skill
sets used in developing his/her project.

Project Evaluation & Viva Voce:

At the end of the training period, the students are required to present the complete project
report, based on the experience and knowledge gained during the training period, in front of
the panel. The panel for viva will consist of the Principal and all the Internal Supervisors.

The final evaluation of the project report will be done by the panel comprising of External
Examiner from the University and the Internal Faculty members.

The student must be thorough enough on his/her report and must also be prepared to answer
any queries related to the project report. The student must be aware of the deficiencies in
his/her report and should be able to discuss them with your examiner.

Note: 1. The project report is to be carried to the viva voce.

2. It is mandatory to bring identity card and admit card for viva voce.

3. It is necessary to come in uniform to attend the viva voce in the institute.

Submission of Summer Training Report

1. Each student will make at least three copies of project report in the recommended format.
It should be typed on one side only. The students will keep one copy of the project with
themselves for their further reference in future and one copy to the organization where they
have done their summer training (if required) and submit one copy to the concerned guide
(internal)

2. Title/Project of two or more student cannot be same. It will not be acceptable.

3. Each student is required to keep a soft copy of the project in hard disk.

4. The cover page must be hard bound or spiral binding. The size of the report would depend
on the project undertaken. However it must be 60 (approx.) typed pages on A4 size paper. All
the students are required to use the uniform font and format (except in heading and
subheadings) throughout the text of the report. For example, if anybody uses “Times New
Roman” of font size 12 in the text, then he/she will be using the same throughout the report.

5. The project report must accompany two certificates (one from organization where you
have done your summer training and another from the Faculty Guide of the Institution)
authenticating the originality of the work done in the prescribed format.

6. If any material in the report is picked up from any source and the source name is not
referred in the bibliography section then it will be treated as a case of plagiarism. (Cheating)

7. If the student uses any table/graph/figure, then it is to be numbered and source of


information from which it is collected, is to be mentioned under each as footnote.

8. Page numbers should be mentioned at the top right corner of each page midway between
the top and right edge of the paper (1/2” space from top and right margin).

9. Lowercase Roman numerals (i.e., i, ii, iii) are used for the preliminary pages (front matter).

10. The Title page counts as page i, but does not bear a number.

11. The actual numbering with the acceptance page must begin as page ii, and continue with
lowercase Roman numerals until the start of the actual body of the dissertation.

12. Arabic numerals (i.e., 1, 2, 3) should be used in the body of the work, the bibliography,
and any appendices. Page numbers must be consecutive and on every page including
appendixes, tables, figures, maps, charts, photographs, etc.

Language

The Project Report must be written in English.

Typing Instructions:

1. Paper A4 Size

2. Font (Times New Roman)- 12 Points

3. Spacing between two lines (1.5)

4. Margins Left = 1.5 inch, Right = 1 inch

5. Spacing within a sentence

6. Between words: 1 space

7. After a colon: 1 space

8. After a semi colon: 1 space

9. After a comma: 1 space

10. After a full stop: 1space


Other Content Related Guidelines

1. Do not copy and paste information from other documents. Always write in your own
words.
2. If you need to include information from other sources, properly quote or paraphrase,
and give citations.
3. Be consistent with the use of your abbreviations and state their long form when they
are used for the first time.
4. Be correct, consistent, and complete.
5. Make sure you cite any ideas that you borrow from other sources.

ALL THE STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO FOLLOW THE ABOVE STATED


GUIDELINES AND ARE REQUIRED TO WRITE THE PROJECT REPORT IN
THEIR OWN LANGUAGE.

Running Head Format for APA Style Papers (Page Number)

The running head (along with the page numbers) appears in the header of every page (the
header by nature is situated within the top margin of your paper; all the margins themselves
should be set to 1 inch). Type it in all capital letters, make sure it is no longer than 50
characters (including spaces), and left justify it. Then add your page numbers, right justified.

On the first page only, the running head is also preceded by the words Running head and a
colon. On all other pages, just the running head itself and the page number appear, without
the words Running head:

Note- There should not be any Arabic page number on these pages (Page no should be in
Roman letter)

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

In the project report you have to write the acknowledgement and attach it as per sequencing.
It should contain the names of the people you want to thank who helped you in this project
(usually your supervisor, parents, friends, teacher etc.)

CERTIFICATES

You are required to attach two certificates

1. One Certificate will be given to you from the organization

2. Another certificate will be provided by the Faculty Guide


EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

It is a summary of a report prepared to give a brief but complete description of the purpose,
methods used, results and conclusions of your investigation for the Project Report. Executive
Summaries are often written to be understood by persons in administrative positions and
those without research training.

Declaration

I hereby declare that the project work entitled “[PROJECT TITLE]” submitted to D.A.V.
School of Business Management (Affiliated to Utkal University), is a record of original work
done by me under the guidance of [RESPECTIVE NAME], Faculty Member and this Project
Report has not been completed on the basis for the award of any Degree or
Diploma/Fellowship and similar project, if any.
