and give 2 examples of each. (2 marks)
2. Observe the diagram.

State a condition in which a body can have inertia but no weight. Find the mass of an
astronaut in a space satellite, if on earth’s surface the astronaut weighs 250 N. (2 marks)
3 A small shop’s details are given below:

Electrical Number of Used time in hrs Power of the

Appliance appliances appliance
fan 1 6 75W
tube lights 2 4 40W
refrigerator 1 4 100 W

Calculate the electric energy bill amount for the month of April to the shopkeeper if cost per
unit is Rs 2. (2 marks)
4. From Rutherford’s 𝝰 particle scattering experiment, give the experimental evidence for

(b) Write one example of each
(i) Tetra-atomic molecule. (ii) Diatomic molecule.
6. Which has more number of atoms? (2 marks)
100 g of N2 or 100 g of NH3.

7. What information do you get from the following figure about the atomic number, mass
number and valency of atoms ‘X’ and ‘Y’? Give your answer in a tabular form. (2 marks)

‘X’ ‘Y’

(OR)
Satish took 5 moles of carbon atoms in a container and Ram chander also took 5 moles of
Sodium atoms in another container of the same weight.
(a) Whose container is heavier?
(b) Whose container has more number of atoms?

SECTION B
8 “Educating parents would help a lot in reducing the incidences of diseases in children”.
Justify the statement in 3 sentences.
OR
The symbol of solidarity for people living with a viral disease is given here. Write the full
name of the disease. A person suffering from that disease cannot fight even minor
infections. Why? (3 marks)
9 Students of Class IX had to present a seminar on “Dengue fever”. They wanted to
introduce the disease by starting with
(i) immediate cause of the disease
(ii) definition of infectious diseases
(iii) pathogen causing dengue fever
(iv) vector responsible for dengue microbe
Can you help them to explain the above points? (3 marks)
10.. Write 3 points of difference between the mass of an object and its weight.
OR
A fire cracker is fired and it rises to a height of 1000m. Find the velocity by which it was
released and time taken by it to reach the highest point. (3 marks)
11 Name 2 forms of mechanical energy. Define the SI unit of energy. Calculate the energy of
a body of mass 20 kg moving with a velocity of 0.1 m/s. (3 marks)
12. Write down the names of compounds represented by the following formulae? (3 marks)

(a) Draw a diagram showing distribution of the electrons in the orbits.
(b) What is the valency of the element and why?
(OR)
Write the electronic configuration and valency of the following:
(a) Chlorine. (b) Sodium. (c) Nitrogen.

SECTION C
14 Case based question (4 marks)
Read the following and answer the questions from (i) to (iv) given below.
The universe has many forces that include our daily pushes and pulls. There are only 4
forces in Physics from which everything else is derived. These are strong force, the weak
force, the electromagnetic force and the gravitational force. The gravitational force is a
force that attracts any 2 objects which have some mass.

(i) Which formula is used to calculate the gravitational force F, between the above 2
objects?
(ii) Which force keeps the moon in a uniform circular motion around the earth?
(iii) Two objects kept in a room do not move towards each other as per the universal
law of gravitation. Why?
(iv) The earth is acted upon by gravitation of the sun, even then it does not fall into
the sun. Why?
15. Read the following paragraph and answer the questions given below (4
marks)

Compounds composed of metals and non-metals contain charged species. The charged species
are known as ions. A negatively charged ion is called an anion and the positively charged ion is
called a cation. Sodium chloride (NaCl) has positively charged Sodium (Na+) and negatively
charged Chloride (Cl-) ions. Ions may consist of a single charged atom or a group of atoms that
have a net charge on them. A group of atoms carrying a charge is known as a polyatomic ion ex:
bicarbonate (HCO3-), carbonate ion (CO3-), Sulphate ion(SO4–-).The combining power of an
element is known as its valency. Valency of Sodium (Na+) is 1 and valency of
Aluminium (Al +++) is 3.
a. How is a cation different from an anion?
b. What are polyatomic ions?
c. Write the symbols of the ions present in NaCl molecules.
d. Give two examples of polyatomic molecules.
