1GENERAL OPERATING MANUAL
Version: HV test set ~ V5.3,
Discharge of responsibilities
The alone equipment cannot guarantee the safety of users.
Systems and procedures must complete the device to achieve the highest degree of
protection (PL2e).
Although this document sets out the protection measures to be applied, itis not
exhaustive.
Events such as electric arcs can cause damages to equipment and persons when
the good protective measures are not taken,
Examples:
Electric arcs can raise the potential on a protection grid of a test enclosure if the
return of mass of the object under test is not directly connected to the transformer.
Lines and microwave electromagnetic emissions can damage sensitive equipment.
An electric discharge at high voltage in an object under vacuum can generate
harmful ionizing radiation,
The connection of the high voltage with a too thin driver can generate a toxic ozone
production.
The functions of buming or heating, present on some equipment, can cause fire and
toxic fumes.
These risks and those who are unknown resulting mainly from how is implemented
of the delivered equipment, the user alone is responsible for risks incurred during its
use.OPERATING MANUAL

L-WARNING
IMPROPER CONNECTION TO EARTH CAN LEAD TOA DANGER OF DEATH
ANY OPERATION ON THE SYSTEM:
1s authorized only for qualified personnel aware to high voltage dangers.
= Must be according to the safety rules found in that document and those defined by
the responsible service,
= Must be according to the instructions conceming characteristics, installation and
‘operation.
4A SAFETY RULES.
Check that the protection equipments and procedures complies with the
European standard EN 60191 : Erection and operation of electrical test
equipment.
= The ground screws must be connected directly to protection earth
~All the items under high voltage must be located in a safety enclosure.
= The safety loop must be connected in serial with @ safety switch detecting the
‘opening of the door of the safety enclosure.
- Do not block up the cooling holes,
= Let the mains switch and the emergency stop button easily accessible.
- Before the pow
up: verity that the cables are not damaged.
- Atthe power-up: verify the red and green lamps with a start-stop operation.
- Before and during any operation inside the safety enclosure:
* Wait tl the HV indicator is off.
* Switch off the mains switch.
* Plug all the High Voltage points to the ground.
~ Only use a dry rag for cleaning operations.
- Voltage levels that can lead to electric shock are present in the control unit and the
generator: DO NOT OPEN.
Call the after sales service for any maintenance operation.
Almost yearly: check that the protection equipments are working perfectly.
52 INSTALLATION - CONNECTION
For the units designed in 19" cabinets:
Remove the lateral panels.
Unscrew the fixation comer plate from the pallet and from the frame.
Remount the lateral panels taking care to connect the ground screws and
teplace the locking screws
Use the lever rings to install the unit on its place.
Connect the cables and outputs according to the annexed diagrams with respect to
the instructions hereunder,
CAUTION! Protection earth is required.
Improper connection can lead to a danger of death
Power: to be separated from other cables
Measurements, protections, signalization
Ground: as short as possible
Return OV: as short as possible (connected to Ground)
= HV connection: use big diameters to avoid corona effects.

iS-4 INTERPRETATION OF THE RESULT
Off; Displayed at the power-up. In case of a mains failure the last recorded
measurements are saved,
INTERRUPTION: the cycle has been stopped before the end of T2
PASSED; The complete cycle has been finished without any failure,
I> max: the H.V. current was higher than the programmed *Imay’.
Imax HW: the hardware threshold set by Imax potentiometer has tripped (see
calibration),
Breakdown: A failure has created a fast variation of HV voltage or
current.
Press ENTER during 9s to display the calibration and configuration
menu.
See the du/dt and di/dt measured then, if necessary, set the
detection thresholds higher than that that values to reduce the
sensibility.
Exit that menu by pressing “save Eprom" during 3s to save that
configuration.
Measurement Fail: No measurement on U and | when the regulator
tums off the low position switch.
Generator Fall.: for DT3: The safety bloc of the tank has detected a defect
(temperature or gas or over-pressure, oil level), For DT2: The thermal switch is
‘open. Wait for cooling before restart.
‘Thermo-relay failure: reset the thermo-relay inside the control unit and check the
equalization of the primary currents of the transformer,
Memory failure CAL: The parameters of configuration / calibration are lost (see
calibration)
SAFETY LOOP: check the safety loop and the emergency stop.
DANGER HY IMMINENT: Waming before start
DANGER HY: the cycle is not finished or
~A high voltage is measured
~The regulator is not on zero position
~The discharge relay is not closed (Option)
= The stand-by signal is off
134- CALIBRATION.
‘When possible use a pure sine power supply or chose a moment of the day when the power
‘mains is stable with a low distortion.
Required equipment
Voltage: Divider or potential transformer, calibrated and adapted to the range of the voltage
‘output.
HY connection free of corona effects: big outar diameter, far enough from the grounded
parts,
HV and ground connections must be made as short as possible.
Check the documentation of the divider to know and settle the possible error effects (ground
Proximity, temperature, frequency, ...).
Current: calibrated apparatus adapted to the range of the current output.
For low current range regarding to the power of the generator, provide a loading impedance
that wil allow finest adjustment of the current output.
Procedure
Push ENTER during 3 seconds to display the
calibration pag
The coefficients of the analog conversion (without dot), on the left of the screen,
correspond to the value to display when the analog input is at 100%,
‘See the first page of the pars list to check the factory setting of the coefficient and the
potentiometer corresponding to the measurement fo be calibrated.
To correct a calibration error, apply the following formula
new coefficient = standard / display x old coefficient
Caution! always keep 5% margin over the maximal value to let the system capable to
detect a possible over range signal.
When a modification of the coefficient has to be done, note the actual coefficient and check
that it corresponds to the last record reported on the Table of calibrations, make a complete
calibration report before and after the modification. This will help to make a diagnostic of the
Variation error of the measurement circuit.
Report the new coefficient on the table then save the modification by pushing the key Save
EPROM during 3 seconds.
VOLTAGE:
Set the voltage output at 80% of the measurement range and et compare the display to the
standard measurement
‘CURRENT:
Connect the current standard between the HV output and the ground plug, set U2=0kV and
push shortly the keys & and ¥ to set manually the current output. If necessary, add an
impedance load to set the current fin
Set the current output at 80% of the measurement range and compare the display to the
standard measurement
Ifthe hardware detection of Imax is to low, increase the threshold by tuning the Imax
potentiometer clockwise.
