CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION

A. Background of the Study

Offline learning activities carried out by interaction between students and
teachers with face to face in the classroom. According to Bonk and Graham
(2006), offline learning is a learning model that seeks to convey knowledge
to students that brings teachers and students in a classroom for learning that
has planned. From the definition of the expert, the researcher can conclude
that, offline learning is learning that is carried out with directly interaction
between students with the teacher or students with the other students too, in
the classroom. Online learning is always considered as a new innovation or a
new model in teaching and learning activities. The online learning system
tries to allow students to study at home without having to go to school.
Online learning can be done with an application-based system in distance
with virtual learning to feel more convenient and easy to do. Online learning
allows students to do learning at home anytime or anywhere, depends on the
agreement between the students and the teachers. This learning only requires
an internet connection, so it is not necessary to study in person. As stated by
Isman (2017), online learning is a learning process using the internet
network. In addition, Naidu (2006), defined online learning is an intensity of
using information and communication technology networks in teaching and
learning. Besides online learning, previously learning activities were always
carried out face-to-face or offline learning, but after the Covid19 that
attacked Indonesia in March 2020, the government has changed the learning
activities to online learning system.

However, because of the incident of Corona Virus Disease (Covid19), it

has a big impact and changed almost all aspect of human life and activities.
The education sector is one of the vital sectors affected by this pandemic.
Since the Covid19 was confirmed have spread to Indonesia, all kinds of
educational institutes should postpone the teaching and learning face to face
in classroom and change it over to online learning system by using online

1
learning platforms and should study from home. The Minister of Education
and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia has issued a Circular Letter No. 20
in 2020 on the implementation of education policies during the emergency
because of the spread of Covid-19. In the circular letter, it is explained that
the learning process is carried out through online learning in order to provide
a meaningful learning experience for students. In this situation, of course
there are many changes in the educational sector. First, in teaching methods
which were originally learning face-to-face in the classroom, the teacher
explains the material, using the blackboar to write, turning into the online
learning system using online learning platform. The second is in teaching
media, from using textbooks to teaching media in the form of online learning
platforms like zoom meetings, google classroom, google meet etc. The third
is in the way of the teachers delivering material, from the previous learning,
the teachers delivering the material directly in front of the classroom, its
turning into explaining the material through a video conference using an
online learning platform.

According to (Mirzon Daheri, Juliana, Deriwanto,2020) online

learning platform is a program that can support the online learning success.
The online learning process utilizes technological advances such as
multimedia technology, video, virtual classes, animated online texts, voice
messages, email, telephone conferences, online video streaming and online
learnning platform. There are several platforms that can be used in the
implementation of online learning including Zoom Meeting, Google
Classroom, Edmodo, Study House, Teacher's Room, Your School, Smart
Class, Zenius, Google Suite for Education, Microsoft Office 365 for
Education. Apart from these platforms, there are other digital platforms that
can be used during learning, including Whatsapp Group (WAG), Google
Classroom (GC), and Edmodo (Rachmawati, 2020). From the definition the
researcher can conclude tha online learning platform is a software created to
facilitate the students and teachers without having to meet face to face,by
using an application or web.

2
According to Utami and Cahyono (2020, p. 21), Difficulties often
presented by self-concept when students learning online, namely: a) Students
can’t have their own learning initiative, so students wait for instructions or
assignments from the teacher in learning. b) Students are not used to carrying
out online learning needs at home, students learn materials according to what
the teachers gives, not what they need. c) Students' online learning goals or
targets for learning are still limited to obtaining high score, not the abilities
they should improve. d) Some students are still unable to monitor, regulate,
and control online learning at home, still seem to learn as necessary. e) There
are still students who give up doing assignments when there are difficulties
and students rarely evaluate the process of their learning result. All of
difficulties made the students less motivation in learning. In this case the
teacher should think creatively to transfer the knowledge to the students.

According to Myers (1996, 297), motivation as a need or desire that

serves to energize behavior and to direct it towards a goal. Learning that is
followed by motivated students will be really fun, especially for teachers.
Students who complete learning tasks will be motivated towards the material
that has been studied, they will be more likely to use the material that has
been studied. In terms of students’ learning, students will be succeed if there
is a desire and urge to learn, due to increase motivation learning, students
will be moved, directed at students' attitudes and behavior in learning study.
From the explanation of motivation in learning, the researcher can conclude
that in learning, motivation is very important, because students who are
highly motivated in learning will allow to get high learning result too,
meaning that the higher motivation, the more intensity of the effort made, and
also higher the learning result obtained. The way how to motivated students’
in online learning with offline learning is certainly different. How to motivate
students through online learning according to Malone's motivation theory
which states that a person's motivation can be increased by four elements,
namely challenge, curiosity, control and fantasy. While the way to motivate
students through offline learning according to Djiwandono (2006:173), is by
discovery learning, the advantage of the discovery learning is first, discovery

3
learning sparks students' curiosity, which can motivate them to keep working
until they find the answer. The second is, this approach can teach
independent problem-solving skills and requires students to analyze and
manipulate information rather than simply internalizing it.

It is important to know the students’ perception related with their

motivation. According to Unumeri (2009), perception is process of thinking
or feeling something. Perception is the reason why the students’ perception is
important are, by knowing the students' perception, the teacher can better
understand the students. In addition, according to (Shidu, 2003: 15) Students'
perception is students' points of view of something that happens in the
learning process and produces it with suggestions or arguments to teachers or
classmates to improve the learning process.

When the researcher carried out PLP (Pengenalan Lapangan

Persekolahan) activities at SMAN 1 Wanasaba, the researcher found that the
way students learn at SMAN 1 Wanasaba was through blended learning
(Online and Offline learning). Teaching and learning activities were carried
out in 2 sessions, where the first session was held at 07.00am-10.00am and
the second session was held at 10.15am-01.00pm. In the first session the
students who came were students from attendance 1-16 and in the second
session the students who came were students from attendance 17-30. The
teaching media used at SMAN 1 Wanasaba during offline learning were
printed media, such as textbooks and modules. Meanwhile, in the online
learning process used online learning platforms such as zoom meetings,
google classroom, and whatsapp. For the teaching and learning process, the
teacher used the zoom meeting as a learning media, while for the presence,
the teacher using the whatsapp application, and for collection the assignments
submitted through google classroom. However, in this research, the
researcher will only focus on the use of online learning platform by using
zoom meeting, because the teachers motivated the students by using zoom
meeting. Because of this, the researcher wants to know the students’

4
perception on the use of online learning platform by using zoom meeting at
SMAN 1 Wanasaba during the pandemic situation.

Based on the explanation above, the researcher interested in exploring

students’ perceptions after following the online learning process by using
online learning platform in the type viewed from motivation by using zoom
meeting. Then, the researcher conducted a research entitled “Students’
Perception On The Use Of Online Learning Platform Viewed From
Motivation”.

CHAPTER II
REVIEW OF LITERATURE
A. Students’ Perception
1. Definition of Perception
According to (Akrim & Sulasmi, 2020) defines perception as a person's
process of understanding things that are around him or his environment
through five senses which are influenced by experience so that he is aware of
what has been observed ultimately affects his attitudes and behavior.
According to (Qiong, 2017) in philosophy, psychology, and cognitive
science, perception is the process of attaining awareness or understanding of
sensory information. The word “perception” comes from the Latin words
perceptio, percipio, and means “receiving, collecting the action of taking
possession, and apprehension with the mind or senses.
Students' perception is students' points of view of something that happens
in the learning process and produces it with suggestions or arguments to
teachers or classmates to improve the learning process (Shidu, 2003: 15). It
means that perception is the view or opinion of people on a condition or
physical sensation obtained from the teaching and learning process and how
they reach in that direction. So it can be concluded that student perception is a
process where students interpret their understanding or thoughts and images
about what they feel and see through several stages called the stage of
collecting, recognizing, and finally interpreting the sensory information
obtained.
2. Types of Perception
There are many types of perception according to Zaden (1984:109)
there are person perception, social perception, and situation perception.
a. Person
Perception Person perception refers to those processes by which
we come to know and think about others, their characteristics, qualities,
and inner state. We construct an image of other ways that serve to
stabilize, make predictions, and render our manageable view of the
social world to the extent to which we attribute stable straits and

7
enduring disposition to other people. We feel that we are better able to
understand their behavior and predicted their future actions and we use
their nations to guide our interaction which them. A person without
sight may perceive sound differently than somebody with the ability to
see. Each person’s individual perception is based on how people
perceive life experiences and with that being the case no two people's
perception of the same situation is likely to be exactly the same. In
these types, it has a correlation to students who have personal
perception or ow perception. Every student has a different perception to
think about the characteristic of the teacher, the way the teacher
teaches, the quality of a teacher, and even the instructional media used
teacher in the teaching and learning process. Every student also has a
different perception of what the material is taught by the teacher. So it
could be concluded that person perception refers to a general tendency
to form impressions of other people, the different conclusions we make
about other people based on our impressions.
b. Situation Perception
Social psycholinguistics views a situation as all the social factors
that influence a persons' experience or behavior at a given time and
given a place. It is an interaction of time and space within which we act
in specific ways. The situational context in which stimuli occur has
consequences for their interpretation. Anyone of multiple words may
emerge. Depending on which stimuli we register. The linkage we make
among these stimuli in our interpretation of the stimuli. This typically
means that people's perceptions are different based on the situation. The
student's attitude in the past is different from students' attitude now. It is
because of the social factors that influence a person's behavior and it is
also about the difference in knowledge students that flow the
information and technology, thereby affecting the students' thought.
c. Social Perception
Social perception means that trying o understand people whether
they are professional athletes, politicians, criminals, leaders,

8
entertainers, or loved ones closer to home is not an easy task. Knowing
that other people have thoughts, beliefs, emotions, intentions, and
desires, being able to read other people's inner states based on their
words, behavior, and facial expression. Social perception is a complex
process; people observe other people's behavior carefully until they get
a complete analysis of the person, situation, and behavior. This means
that people perceive something depending on the quality would give a
good perception. They are able to read other people's perceptions of a
different activity.
3. Process of Perception
Based on Qiong (2017), the process of human perception is divided
into three steps. They are as follows:
1. Selection
In this stage, the stimulus will be shown through the human experience. It
becomes the foundation as a recognition process to gain the human
perception.
2. Organization
The second step is the organization in which the fundamental process of
human perception. The information that they had based on their experience
needs to be arranged in a certain way by finding the meaningful pattern. A
lot of the duration are taken by this process to integrate the information.
3. Interpretation
The last stage is interpretation in which refers to the process of attaching
meaning to what the stimulus decides. However, despite getting the same
stimulus, each individual will give a different interpretation.
4. Factor Affecting Perception

Walgito (1989:75) divides factor that affects perception

into two. They are as follow:

a. Internal Factors

Internal factor is a factor which comes from an

9
individual, especially depend on psychological factors such

as: thoughts, feeling, willingness, needs, sex, motivation,

and attention. Every human being has different characteristic

and temperament which influence individual behaviors. The

different characteristic and temperament also shaped by

individuals‟ family and individuals‟ environment.

b. External Factors

This factor which comes from outside an individual,

the external factors also affected someone‟s perception, and

stimulus is an internal factor in monitoring process. The

process of stimulus will through the sense of organ receptor

such as: sight, sounds, hearing etc. It can be concluded that

the individual‟s sense organ is as a connector between

individual and the world.

In this research, those factors influencing perception are

important to be used as the basis information of implementation
toward the students’ perception of using online learning.
5. Indicators of Perception
According to Bimo Walgito (1990: 54-55) . There are three kinds of
perception indicators, namely:
a. Absorption of stimuli or objects from outside the individual
These stimuli or objects are absorbed or received by the five senses,
both vision, hearing, touch, smell, and taste, individually or together.
From the results of absorption or reception by sensory devices would
get a picture, response, or impression in the brain. These images can be
single or plural, depending on the object of perception observed. Inside
the brain, there are images or impressions, both old and newly formed.

10
Clear whether or not the picture depends on whether or not stimulation
is clear, sensory normality and time, just or long ago.
b. Understanding
After the images or impressions occur in the brain, the picture is
organized, classified (classified), compared, interpreted, so that
understanding or understanding is formed. The process of
understanding or understanding is very unique and fast. The definition
formed depends also on the old images that have been owned by the
individual before (called apperception).
c. Assessment or evaluation
After understanding or is formed, there is an assessment of the
individual. Individuals compare the understanding or understanding
that has just been obtained with the criteria or norms that individuals
have subjectively. Individual judgments are different even though the
object is the same. Therefore perception is individual.
6. Measurement of Perception
The data collection used in measuring perceptions is a questionnaire which
was developed in three indicators of perception according to Sunaryo (2013),
namely acceptance of stimuli, organizing and interpretation. According to
Notoatmodjo (2014), Behavioural components include perception, attitude,
emotional life and propensity to act. Therefore, the measurement of
perception can be done using a Likert scale. According to Azwar (2012),
Likert scale uses a number of statements/questions to measure perception
responses based on average answers with the following categories:
a. Strongly agree (SA) = 5
b. Agree (A) = 4
c. Quite Agree (QA) = 3
d. Disagree (D) = 2
e. Strongly disagree (ST) = 1
B. Online Learning Platform
1. Definition of Online Learning Platform

11
In the development of online learning there is one tool that is used,
namely the platform. As for the meaning of the platform, namely : "A
learning platform is a term covering a variety of different products, all of
which support online elements of learning in some way" Prawiradilaga
(2016).
Online learning is study or learn not face to face but the study from a
platform digital/ e-learning. Online learning is also called distance
learning. Media in online learning is E-learning such as zoom, google
classroom, whatssapp group, google meet, telegram group, etc. Online
learning is a process of learning using the internet network in learning
process Isman (2017) notes as quoted in Assidiqi (2020). Online Learning
can be termed as a tool that can make the teaching–learning process more
student-centered, more innovative, and even more flexible. Online learning
is defined as “learning experiences in synchronous or asynchronous
environments using different devices (e.g., mobile phones, laptops, etc.)
with internet access. In these environments, students can be anywhere
(independent) to learn and interact with instructors and other students”
(Singh & Thurman, 2019). There are several platforms that can be used in
the implementation of online learning including Google Classroom,
Edmodo, Study House, Teacher's Room, Your School, Smart Class,
Zenius, Google Suite for Education, Microsoft Office 365 for Education.
Apart from these platforms, there are other digital platforms that can be
used during learning, including Whatsapp Group (WAG), Google
Classroom (GC), Edmodo, and Zoom (Rachmawati et al., 2020). From the
definition the researcher can conclude tha online learning platform is a
software created to facilitate the students and teachers without having to
meet face to face,by using an application or web.
2. Advantage and Disadvantage of online learning platform
a. Advantages in using platform in online learning :
1) Help the teacher to give the material and assignment via online
2) Help the students easly to get the lesson via online and
3) Help the students easly to collect their assignments.

12
b. Disadvantages in using platforms in online learning :
1) Need quota to using platforms
2) Sometimes if there is no network the aplication can’t we use
3. Online Learning
Online learning is study or learn not face to face but study from platform
digital or e-learning. Online learning also called distance learning. Media in
online learning is E-learning such as zoom, google classroom, whatssapp
group, google meet, telegram group, etc. Online learning is a process of
learning using internet network in learning’s process (Isman, 2017). Everyone
must have the data to conection in application they will use in online learning.
Not only must have the data but also must have handphone or laptop as the
place in download the application. And the good internet network so that the
students can easly to get the information from the application and then so that
easly to open the material of learning in the application. “Online learning is as
educational material that is presented on a computer” Deaton (2005) as
quated in Yuliani et al (2020). From that definition we know that all about
online learning is using computer to show the material.
C. Teaching English Through Online Learning
However, the massive implementation of online learning during Covid-
19 in Indonesia is less followed by the readiness of its implementation. The
sudden change from an in-classroom setting to an online learning setting
affects online learning readiness. Churiyah et al. (2020) revealed that the
implementation of online distance learning in Indonesia needs to be in terms
of teachers’ readiness in selecting the appropriate strategy. Amount of
schools in Indonesia lack experience in online learning since there
unavailability of online learning regulations before (Priyanto, 2009). The
regulation of online learning in Indonesia is mentioned in The Regulation of
The Minister of Education and Culture Number 109 in 2013, however, this
regulation is just for tertiary education. The lack of experience then leads
English teachers monotonously use the same technique for any occasion.
Nugroho, Ilmiani, and Rekha (2021) found that low students’ motivation is
one EFL teachers’ challenge in conducting online learning. It has been

13
highlighted that the teachers teach monotonously which causes low students’
motivation to learn. In teaching English through online learning, teachers
need to design online learning properly. The way to deliver the course in
online learning is based on students’ comfort with the technology used,
students’ technical expertise in the technology used, and students’ available
time (Ghirardini, 2011). Teachers need to implement a certain strategy to
deliver English online courses appropriately and attractively to students. If
the way to deliver the course in online learning is appropriate and attractive to
students, it would be beneficial to motivate students to teach (Gonzalez & St.
Louis, 2018).
D. Motivation
1. Definition of Motivation
Motivation is formulated as encouragement given from within and
without to achieve certain goals. Motivation can be interpreted as the
actualization of the power within an individual that can activate and direct
behaviour which is the embodiment of an integrated interaction between
motives and the observed situation and functions to achieve the goals
expected by the individual, which takes place in a dynamic process
(Prihartanta 2015: 2). So far, motivation has an important role in
increasing the achievement of student learning outcomes. Students who
have great motivation tend to be more active in learning and organize their
learning activities. Saptono (2016) stated that motivation can be
considered as a fundamental part toward students’ achievement. The more
active classroom can be indicated that there also presents a big motivation.
The impact will be given by the students through the improvement of their
learning outcomes.
According to Harmer (2007) Motivation is some kind of internal drive
which pushes someone to do things in order to achieve something. Those
explanations above could be assumed that Motivation is an impulse from
inside and outside of humans to do something better than before.
2. Types of Motivation

14
According to Prihartanta (2015:4), there are two types of motivation
which are explained as follows:
a. Intrinsic Motivation
Intrinsic Motivation is motivations that become active or functioning
do not need to be stimulated from the outside, because in every
individual there is already an urge to do something.
b. Extrinsic Motivation
Extrinsic Motivation is active and functioning motives due to external
stimuli. It can also be said as a form of motivation in which learning
activities begin and continue based on outside encouragement that is
not absolutely related to learning activities.
3. Variable of Motivation
According to Fatiha (2014), two motivational variables are explained
as follows:
a. Instrumental motivation
People are highly motivated and want to learn languages for practical
reasons, such as getting a salary or college bonus are the essence of
instrumental motivation.
b. Integrative motivation
Motivated people want to learn languages in integrative motivation,
so that they can better understand the people who speak using
language and the culture associated with that language as
4. Efforts to Increase Students’ Motivation
According to Sardirman (2005) there are several steps that teachers can
take to increase student motivation in learning activities at school, namely:
a. Score
The good scores they get can be a powerful motivation. What
teachers need to remember is that achieving good scores is not a true
and meaningful learning result.
b. Prizes
Prizes can be a very strong motivation, where students are
interested in certain fields which, if successful, will get prizes.

15
However, this is not the case if from the beginning a reward is given for
something that is not attractive to students.
c. Competition
The competition that occurs both between individuals and groups
can be a means to increase learning motivation, because sometimes if
there are competition students will be more enthusiastic to achieve the
best results.
d. Ego-involvement
Growing student awareness to feel the importance of assignments
and accept them as challenges so that working hard is one form of
motivation that is quite important.
e. Quiz
Most students will study hard if they know there will be a quiz. But
don't do the quiz too often because it will be boring and later on for
students, it will just become a normal routine.
f. Know the result
By knowing the learning outcomes, students will be motivated to
study harder. Moreover, if the learning outcomes are progressing,
students will try to maintain or even be motivated to improve.
g. Praise
Praise is a form of positive reinforcement and can foster a pleasant
atmosphere and increase one's motivation to do more.
h. Punishment
Punishment is a form of negative reinforcement, but if given
correctly and wisely can be a motivational tool. Therefore, the teacher
must understand the principles of punishment.
E. Previous Research
Regarding to the students’ perception on the use of online learning
platform, there are two previous research that have the researcher conducted:
The first research entitled is “Exploring Students’ Perception Of E-
Learning In Studying English During Covid-19 Pandemic” (2021) this
research was conducted by Lisa Azaria Sukma Syam, the result of this study

16
shows that the students’ perception of e-learning in studying English during
Covid-19 pandemic have positive respond, most of students was agree with
the benefits of e-learning. While the students’ problems faced was the level
of concentration and seriousness of their learning decreased during online
learning. The internet access is not stable and device facilities, such as
smartphone and laptop do not support in accessing e-learning. The students
were also difficult to understand the material provided by the teacher and
have difficulty doing individual assignments and group assignments that have
to work on together by online. The last problems were the students easily
experience stress during e-learning. Based on the result, it could be
concluded that students enjoyed the benefits of e-learning, but the sudden
adoption of online learning and lack of preparation, raises several problems.
Therefore, teachers and students are expected to be able to create a creative
and fun teaching and learning atmosphere so that the goals and quality of
education can be achieved.
The second research entitled “Students' Perception and Motivation
toward English E-Learning during COVID-19 Pandemic by Aulia Alawiyah
(2021), this study discusses Students' Perception and Motivation toward
English E-Learning, this study was used a four-point Likert scale
questionnaire to get the data by giving the 8th grade students at SMPN 11
Jambi City and took a sample of 103 students from three classes. This study
used 15 google form questionnaire to collect the data, the link was distributed
through WhatsApp group of eighth graders at SMP Negeri 11 Kota Jambi.
The results showed that students' perceptions of ELearning were positive
because students felt that using E-Learning during a pandemic could save
transportation costs and students could study anywhere. However, the
researcher also found problems faced by students with English Elearning
which were inadequate internet access and technology, as well as the lack of
interaction between students and teachers and students and other students.
F. Conceptual Framework
This conceptual framework is the representation of this research. This
research would conduct at SMAN 1 Wanasaba in the second-grade of IPA

17
(Science) which have been learned of online leaning. The researcher would
focus on the students' perception on the use of online learning platform by
using zoom meeting. The students would be asked about their perception on
the use of online learning through Questionnaire.
The conceptual framework of this research will be design as :

CHAPTER III
RESEARCH METHOD

A. Research Design
This chapter consists of research design, subject of the research, research
instrument, technique of data collection, and technique of data analysis. This
research uses quantitative research method with descriptive quantitative design.
According Aliaga, and Gunderson (2002), describes quantitative research methods
as the explaining of an issue or
phenomenon through gathering data in numerical form and analyzing with the aid
of mathematical methods; in particular
statistics. The researcher uses this method to describe the students’ perception on
the use of online learning platform viewed from motivation.. (Ganti pakai
Quantitative Descriftive)
B. Subjects of The Research
The participants of this research will be second-grade of IPA, students at
SMAN 1 Wanasaba East Lombok. The researcher has determined 5 students
as the amount of the participants in this research, the researcher given the
authority by the teacher to choose any students as a sample. According to Gay
in Mahmud (2011, p. 159), the minimum acceptable sample size based on the
descriptive method research that is, at least 10% of the population. For
relative population small, at least 20%. The reason why the researcher took
the second-grade of IPA, because in this class different then other class, the
class took online learning during the pandemic situation using online learning
platform Zoom Meeting. The participants of this research will take 5 students,
3 students from IPA-I and 2 students from of IPA-2.
C. Research Instrument
At this stage, the research instruments are applied offline, so that
researcher can collect data more efficiently. The instruments uses in this
research is Questionnaire.
Questionnaire is the list of questions or statements that are given to
participants. Sugiyono (2008: 142) explained that questionnaire is a
technique of collecting data that is done by giving some questions or
statements to respondent. In collecting data, the researcher made

19
questionnaires and distributed them to students in the classroom at SMAN
1 Wanasaba.
In this research, a questionnaire will use to find out the students’
perception related with their motivation on the use of online learning
platform by using Zoom Meeting. It consists of 7 items of the quetionnaire
statement. The researcher uses Likert Scale questionnaire to measure the
attitudes and opinions of the respondents. According to Azwar (2012),
Likert scale uses a number of statements/questions to measure perception
responses based on average answers. It is in the form of scale likert it has 5
optional answers ; Strongly Agree (SA) scored 5, Agree (A), scored 4,
Quite Agree (QA) scored 3, Disagree (D) scored 2, and Strongly Disagree
(SD) scored 1. We can see the table below :
Table 3.1 Likert Scale
Score
Alternative Answer
Effective Noteffective
Strongly Agree 5 1
Agree 4 2
Quite Agree 3 3
Dissagree 2 4
Strongly Disagree 1 5

The percentage of formulating that will be used is as follow:

X 100
Annotation:
P : Percentage
F : Frequency of the respondents
N : the number of respondents 100 (Pindah ke data analisis)

The calculation of central tendency can help the researcher in making a

description of classifying the data interpretation. It is based on the certain criteria:

20
Table 3.2
Percentage of Central Tendency and the Interpretation
Percentage of Central Tendency Interpretation
O% - 20% Very Weak
21% - 40% Weak
41% - 60% Enough
61% - 80 % Strong
81% - 100% Very Strong

D. Technique of Data Collection

After preparing all instruments to collect the data, the researcher
processes the data collection into one section in order to make the process
easier. In this research, the researcher uses questionnaire to get the data
properly, the questionnaire focused on students’ perception on the use of
online learning platform viewed from motivation at SMAN 1 Wanasaba.
E. Technique of Data Analysis
According to Miles and Huberman (1994:10), the thecnique of analysis
data as bellow:
a. Data Reduction
Data reduction refers to the process of selecting, focusing,
simplifying, abstracting, and transforming the data in written up field note
or transcript. This reduction activity is carried out by selecting the main
points, focusing on the important things.
b. Display Data
A display in this context is an organized collection of information that
allows drawing conclusions and taking action. The form of persentation of
qualitative data can be in the form of narrative text (in the form of field
notes), matrics, graphs, networks, or charts. The researcher describes the
data obtained from observations (PLP), and questionnaire. After that, the
researcher interprets to answer the problem.

c. Conclusion/Verification

21
The main activity in data analysis is drawing conclusions/verification.
In this step the researcher concludes the result of the research based on the
research problems. (Ubah menjadi
