A. ACTIVATION OF PRIOR KNOWLEDGE
/ A pleasant day my dear students, you are about to start the new lesson for the week but before we
proceed, I want to challenge your knowledge by answering the activity below. Enjoy!
ACTIVITY 1
Directions: Read each statement carefully below. Write the word TRUE if you think a statement is CORRECT and FALSE if
the statement is FALSIFIED. Refer to ANNEX A1 to answer the activity.
1. Student and faculty members involved in SLP are required to wear the prescribed school ID and college T-shirt while in the
community.
2. The college/university shall issue a certificate of appreciation to the cooperating community upon the completion of the
service-learning activities.
3. Partnership and the other successful relationship and connection can be developed while participating in community
service.
4. In the implementation of program, student and faculty members should be realistic when assessing the limitations of the
community and the school.
5. Students can develop or enhance their skills, especially in the areas of communication, collaboration, and leadership in
implementing the program.
B. ENGAGEMENT IN RELEVANT CONTENT AND APPROPRIATE
OVERVIEW
This chapter deals with the concept of community - its origins and theory – and the qualities that make a family a
mini-community.
LECTURE
The webster’s Dictionary defines community as a body of people living in the same place who work towards the
common interest. This term derived from the old French word communite and the Latin word communitas (cum,
“with/together” +gift). A broad terminology for fellowship or organized society.
The most common and simplest definition of community is that it is an aggregation of families and individuals who
have settled in a compact and contiguous geographical area and share significant elements of common life as shown in
their manners, customs, traditions, and modes of speech.

For Manalili (2009), nonetheless, a community refers to an organization of people who are able to undertake
projects based on its members’ experience, resiliency, motivation, and willingness to learn.
In archeology, a community is understood in two ways, First, it is a place where actually people reside in, an idea
quite similar
CONCLUSION
Service-learning is applied in a wide variety of setting, including schools, universities and community- and faith-
based organization. It can involve a group of students, a classroom, or an entire school. Students build character
and become active participants as with others in their school and various service environment.

I truly believe that you really understood the lesson I prepared for you. A short reminder my beloved
