GRAPHIC ORGANIZER: Thematic Diagram
DEFINITION:
A thematic diagram is a visual representation designed to illustrate a specific
theme, concept, or relationship rather than just showing a physical object or
a literal map.
HOW TO USE:
Identify the Core: Write the main theme or lesson topic in a central circle or
box.
Branch Out: Create main branches for the primary categories or sub-
themes related to the core.
Add Details: Extend smaller lines from the sub-themes to include specific
facts, examples, or supporting evidence.
Connect: If two sub-themes relate to each other, draw a dashed line
between them to show cross-links.
WHEN TO USE:
During Brainstorming: To capture all thoughts related to a new project.
Pre-writing: To organize thoughts before drafting an essay or report.
Study Review: To summarize a chapter and see how different concepts
overlap.
Vocabulary Building: To explore synonyms, antonyms, and usage of a
"root" word.
ADVANTAGES:
Encourages holistic thinking (seeing the whole).
Enhances memory retention through visual cues.
Easy to customize for any subject or grade level.
DISADVANTAGES:
Can become messy or "cluttered" if there are too many ideas.
Not ideal for showing step-by-step processes or timelines.
Can be oversimplified, missing deep analytical nuances.
ACTIVITY TITLE: Connect Ka Dyan!
Instruction: The class will be divided into 3 groups. Each group will be given a
theme and will collaborate to make connect concepts or ideas for the theme in
15 minutes. After that, each group will have a representative to present their
findings.
