Research Institute for Sociotechnical Cyber Security
The Research Institute for Sociotechnical Cyber Security (RISCS), hosted by the University of Bristol, is the UK's first academic research institute to focus on understanding the overall cyber security of organisations, including their constituent technologies, people and processes.
It does this by taking,
an evidence-led and interdisciplinary approach to addressing these sociotechnical cyber security challenges. By providing a platform for the exchange of ideas, problems, and research solutions between academia, industry, and the policy community, RISCS promotes and supports world-leading, multidisciplinary, and scientifically robust research into sociotechnical approaches to cyber security

Research Institute in Verified Trustworthy Software Systems
The Research Institute in Verified Trustworthy Software Systems (VeTSS) is co-hosted by the University of Surrey and Imperial College London.
The aim of VeTSS is to
address the challenge of traditional methods for ensuring software reliability no longer being adequate in modern contexts, by bringing together and supporting world-class UK academics and industrialists unified by a common interest in program analysis, testing, and verification. VeTSS stands at the forefront of research developments in fundamental theories and industrial-strength tools, targeting real-world applications.
VeTSS succeeds the previous Research Institute in Automated Program Analysis and Verification (RIAPAV).
Research Institute in Trustworthy Interconnected Cyber-physical Systems
The Research Institute in Trustworthy Interconnected Cyber-physical Systems (RITICS) is hosted by Imperial College London.
It describes itself as
…a portal to cutting-edge UK research into the cyber security of cyber-physical, critical systems.
RITICS was formerly known as the Research Institute in Trustworthy Industrial Control Systems.
Research Institute in Secure Hardware and Embedded Systems
The Research Institute in Secure Hardware and Embedded Systems is hosted by Queen’s University Belfast.
Its vision is to
…create a global centre for research and innovation in hardware security with close engagement with leading industry partners and stakeholders…
and to
…accelerate the industrial uptake of the Institute’s research output and its translation into new products, services and business opportunities for the wider benefit of the UK economy.
