If like me, your formative years were spent listening to the UK’s radio output in the 70s and 80s, chances are you still yearn for those halcyon days of the real superstar DJs playing the biggest hits. The likes of Tony Blackburn. DLT, Noel Edmonds, John Peel, Kenny Everett, Wrighty and Mike Read commanding the airwaves with their own inimitable styles. Although the digital and internet age has brought us radio from around the world at the press of a button, why do I still crave a chart run down from the the UK Top 40? What is it about the anarchic Kenny Everett that still makes me laugh 40 and 50 years later? Video may have killed the radio star, but it only superficially wounded the hosts and thanks to the Mixcloud community, their golden eras live loud and long.
