A DJ with WXOX since 2014, Gregory Acker is a Community Artist from Louisville, Kentucky, who provides community-building world music workshops and related arts activities for groups of all ages and abilities. A musician, instrument-builder, and arts educator, he works with Arts in Healing (Kentucky Center), VSA Arts (arts for students with disabilities), Kentucky Arts Council, churches, community groups, refugee/immigrant service groups, detention/treatment centers. He holds an MA in Ethnomusicology from Wesleyan University (CT), and is a former Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco and Togo, with extended study experience in India and Indonesia. He has received grants from the NEA, Southern Arts Federation, Kentucky Arts Council, Greater Louisville Fund for the Arts, the City of Louisville, and Alternate ROOTS. He coordinates the Kuvebo! Drum Ensemble (West African music), and also performs with Yapa (new/old Andean), and Transito (Ladino music of the Jewish diaspora).
