Born in Tokyo, DJ Emerald began playing the piano in her childhood and later performed both in bands and as a solo artist before starting her career as a DJ in clubs and bars across the city. She also works as a music selector, curating playlists and soundscapes for galleries, hotels, cafés, and various brands, while contributing essays and reviews to magazines and exploring music from multiple perspectives.
Since 2019, she has hosted her own program In Every Second Dream on the Japanese branch of the Los Angeles–based non-profit radio station dublab.jp, and since 2021 she has been a regular contributor to the Palestinian station Radio Alhara.
In her practice, she moves fluidly between different genres, contexts, memories, and motifs, weaving them together to create new landscapes and narratives.
