Co‑disposal - placing waste rock and tailings together - can be compelling, but it’s not a single “technology choice”; it’s a systems decision. As an alternatives‑assessment option, co‑disposal needs a solid business case that weighs cost, operational complexity, and permitting uncertainty. But it also relies on a multidisciplinary team that can evaluate stability, geochemistry, process and closure with an integrated view. 👇 Learn more from our experts Mark Rizzuto, Ben Wickland, Martha B., Sue Longo and Ingrid Martinez 👇

Whether talking water quantity or water quality, groundwater or surface water, advancing our understanding and leveraging technology to improve mine water management at both operations and legacy sites results in better decisions and better outcomes. At this year’s IMWA - International Mine Water Association Conference, our team is sharing work that reflects some of these advancements. From water quality modelling approaches, to improving our understanding of groundwater and pit lake interactions, to using drones for pit lake monitoring, the focus is on generating insights that support better decisions throughout the mining lifecycle. Events like #IMWA2026 continue to play an important role in connecting technical expertise across the industry and pushing forward practical, science-based solutions to complex mine water challenges. Building a more resilient and future-ready mining sector takes a broader approach to risk, innovation and long-term outcomes. At the World Mining Congress 2026, our team is contributing to the conversation with perspectives on evolving environmental frameworks, the application of AI in geotechnical risk, integrating risk analysis into post-mining planning, and approaches to community engagement. These discussions reflect a continued focus on combining technical excellence with sustainability to support better decisions across the mining lifecycle, aligned with this year’s theme of trust, transformation and technology. Bringing our Engineer of Record community together is a key part of how we continue to strengthen our global tailings practice. We recently hosted an internal conference in our London, UK office, with our EORs across the region for focused discussions on the state of practice. Over the two-days, a variety of case studies were used to discuss risk assessments, escalation processes, emergency preparedness, dam break analysis, monitoring systems, competency development, and more. By sharing experiences and connecting expertise we can challenge our thinking and continuously improve how we deliver for our clients. 🌍 What if you could collaborate with global experts to solve the industry’s toughest challenges? We’re pleased to be supporting the advancement of Brazil Potash Corp’s Autazes Project through a front-end engineering design (FEED) mandate focused on mine shafts and underground development. Working as an integrated team across Brazil, Canada and the UK, WSP is contributing technical expertise in areas including geomechanical analysis, freeze modelling, shaft liner design, and structural assessments, with a strong focus on regulatory compliance and responsible project delivery. This work reflects our experience supporting complex underground mining studies and collaborating with trusted partners like REDPATH DEILMANN GmbH who will serve as subconsultants on the project. We look forward to supporting the advancement of this important potash project, an essential input for agriculture.

Mine closure is inherently complex and often underestimated in its uncertainty. In her keynote at the Mine Closure Congress in Peru, Lisa May challenged conventional thinking by highlighting that we tend to overemphasize threats while downplaying opportunities. She reframed risk as a neutral concept, encouraging teams to identify and act on opportunities earlier in the mine lifecycle rather than focusing only on what could go wrong. Lisa underscores a fundamental reality: closure is messy. Conditions change, assumptions evolve, and no two sites behave the same. This makes continuous reassessment, clear documentation, and adaptive planning essential to achieving successful outcomes. The message is simple but important. Start early, stay flexible, and treat risk as a tool to improve closure, not just to manage it. 👉 Watch the full keynote to explore these insights in more detail: https://lnkd.in/g9BgpTfV (English) https://lnkd.in/gPEKGmdc (Spanish) #CierreDeMinas DEEV - Congresos Mineros Perú WSP en Perú
