Tina Nuñez and the team at Albuquerque Public Schools are showing what's possible when you scale AI enablement district-wide. By investing in their teachers’ professional development, they've helped 566 educators across 127 schools build confidence and responsible practices with digital tools and AI—ultimately impacting nearly 50,000 students. We recently connected with Tina at ISTE and love seeing her dedication to helping educators strengthen their AI skills and bring new tools into their classrooms with purpose.
Two years ago, I sat down to write a grant proposal with New Mexico Community Trust. At the time, I hoped it would create new opportunities for teachers across Albuquerque Public Schools and with the help of the Albuquerque Public Schools Education Foundation it became a reality. I never imagined what our team would actually accomplish. It became an opportunity to help educators build confidence with digital tools (Google Learning & Education), AI, creativity, collaboration, and innovative instructional practices that continue to impact classrooms today. Looking back at the final report, I'm incredibly proud of what was accomplished. • 566 educators empowered • More than 7,100 hours of professional learning • 127 schools served • Nearly 50,000 students impacted All with a pretty small team- that switched out some team members halfway through (Seth Hoover,Elizabeth Rafi,Christy Snell,Kelly Mitchell,Vanessa Barela, MEd,Allie Bailey,Marissa Bannerman,Kristin Garletts,Karn Gustafson,Jennifer Bossow, Aaron Jaramillo). Was it a lot of work? Absolutely. It took countless hours, summer learning, Saturday cohorts, coaching, and people who believed we could build something that would last. And now that it's officially complete, I can finally admit something... I wrote the original proposal in one 19-hour marathon sitting because it was due the next day. eh, Looking back, I'd probably still do it again. The best part wasn't the grant. It was watching educators grow into leaders, seeing new ideas take root across our district, and knowing those opportunities will continue to grow. A huge thank you to the New Mexico Community Trust for believing in this vision, and to every teammate, facilitator, coach, administrator, and most of all, the educators in our district who made it a reality. Students at Georgetown University are applying AI to real-world challenges. During the Georgetown MSF summer clinics, students used Google's AI tools to analyze unstructured data and explore ways to a more resilient financial system. Opportunities like these help students connect classroom learning with practical problem-solving while building the analytical skills they'll use throughout their careers.
On campus at Georgetown University this week for the final presentations of the Georgetown MSF summer clinics. This year's project: Liquidity risk—the ultimate test of resilience, particularly for financial institutions. Traditional risk management frameworks aren't always enough to manage this risk, particularly during market stress. Students dove deep into unstructured data using Google's AI tools to determine how we can make our financial system more resilient. Huge congratulations to this year's challenge winners, Team Radar! Abdallah Gana, MBA, MSF, Heather Lyman, Olga L., Anveeth Ampally, and John Sieber. Very impressed by the depth, grit, and strategic thinking of all students.
