Main Street Park is officially open again in Suwanee, GA! The City of Suwanee, GA recently celebrated the park’s grand reopening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking an exciting milestone for a project that brought together expertise from across T&H. Team members from our Buford, Savannah, and Charleston offices collaborated across engineering, landscape architecture, and structural engineering to help bring the project to life. During the ceremony, Carter Garrison, P.E., was recognized by the City for his role as project engineer. It’s rewarding to see the team’s work come together in a space designed for the Suwanee community to enjoy. Congratulations to everyone who played a part in reaching this milestone!

Our story began in 1946 with the collaboration of former US Army Corps of Engineers Officers, Hue Thomas and Joe Hutton, in their start-up engineering firm in Savannah, GA. Another exciting project breaking ground in Hardeeville. Waterford Pointe Apartments will add 312 multifamily units to the East Argent corridor, an area that continues to see tremendous growth as the Lowcountry expands. A new chapter is taking shape in Greenville’s historic Southernside neighborhood. Thomas & Hutton (T&H) recently joined the City of Greenville, South Carolina and project partners to celebrate the groundbreaking of Southernside West, a new 54-unit affordable senior apartment community near Unity Park. Designed for residents ages 55 and older, the development will expand access to quality, affordable housing while honoring the history and community connections that have shaped Southernside for generations. T&H is proud to serve as civil engineer for the project alongside Harmony Housing Affordable Development, Greenville Housing Fund, McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture, Creative Builders Inc., NHE, Inc., and the many public and community partners helping bring Southernside West to life. As the fall semester starts back up again, I wanted to share a couple of important updates regarding my experiences this summer. I recently wrapped up my summer internship with Thomas & Hutton in Chamblee! I had a fantastic time learning the ins and outs of the Civil 3D platform, Latapult, and Bluebeam. Additionally, I had the opportunity to visit multiple active construction sites and get a first hand view of how projects come together. Thank you to Wes McLean, PE and Andy White, P.E. for the incredible opportunity and everyone in the Chamblee office for making the experience even better! In May, I was blessed to have the opportunity to spend a maymester in Spain through the University of Georgia College of Engineering study abroad program! This was an unbelievable learning experience that gave us the chance to visit multiple companies in Spain, including Sanzar Group in Madrid, and Jeanologia SL and Citri&Co in Valencia. These visits taught us the challenges in managing and implementing sustainability practices while battling adversity in global manufacturing competition. Additionally, I took International Engineering Project Management with James Warnock and Jaime Camelio. This class gave me insight to the amount of different influences that project managers deal with, and culminated in my team creating a 25 page proposal for the construction of a new plaza area designed to help flooding issues in Valencia. The people I met on this trip were fantastic, and I am so grateful for the memories that our group made in Spain. I look forward to applying everything I learned from this summer into my engineering career!
