Dedicated to unsurpassed excellence in care, education, and research, our community-based, not-for-profit corporation features a team of nearly 10,000 strong throughout eight state-of-the-art affiliates offering a broad array of vital services. Yet what matters equally is the size of our heart. Our ambitions. And our potential to do bigger and better things. We’re achieving our goals by developing academic alliances with other respected institutions, including the BJC HealthCare Collaborative and the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. By earning important credentials and accreditations. By making a real investment in employee development. Throughout his career, Dr. Jerry Kruse has been a champion for medical education, physician workforce development and community health. His leadership has strengthened the longstanding partnership between SIU Medicine and Memorial Health, helping ensure patients throughout central Illinois have access to high-quality care close to home. Our president and CEO, Mandy C. Eaton, PhD, was honored to be among those wishing him well last week at a celebration of his upcoming retirement. Thank you, Dr. Kruse, for your many contributions and for being an exceptional partner. We wish you and your family happiness in this next chapter.

His Quick Action Saved a Life We were proud to join the City of Springfield and the Springfield Police Department in honoring SMH security officer Caleb Patrick. Caleb was recently conducting a routine patrol near one of our facilities in Springfield when he saw a woman lying on the railroad tracks with a train approaching. With only seconds to act, he got her to safety and stayed with her until SPD officers arrived and arrangements were made for follow-up care. Thank you for your compassion, quick thinking and dedication to helping others, Caleb!

We didn’t have baby goats getting ultrasounds on our Bingo card, but the donation of an ultrasound machine from Decatur Memorial Hospital to Scovill Zoo made for a pretty cute media availability. While patients at DMH will enjoy a new state-of-the-art ultrasound machine, specialists from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine will be able to better support the health of the zoo's animals using the donated DMH equipment. The veterinarians will perform advanced diagnostic imaging on-site, reducing the need to transport animals for testing. Keeping animals in familiar surroundings can reduce stress while making both routine and emergency care more efficient. From small birds to large mammals, the machine will help veterinarians diagnose conditions earlier and monitor everything from organ health to pregnancies in species such as red pandas, monkeys … and baby goats. #Sustainability #CommunityPartnerships #Healthcare #ScovillZoo #CommunityImpact

Sometimes the most important medical skill is listening. When Connor’s symptoms were repeatedly dismissed elsewhere, Dr. Londe and the team at Memorial Care in Lincoln took a closer look, advocated for faster testing and helped uncover a serious diagnosis that required immediate treatment. This story highlights the impact of compassionate care, clinical intuition and teamwork in improving patient outcomes. Connor is now at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and his inspiring journey points to the power of listening: https://lnkd.in/e_S-6Pe9 #PatientExperience #CancerAwareness

It was great to hear Brianne Holmes, Memorial Health sepsis program manager, and Ryan McCarty, MD, SIU Medicine, educating the community about the signs and symptoms of sepsis on WTAX earlier this week! We're among the lucky few healthcare organizations our size to have a program specifically designed to save lives by identifying and addressing sepsis quickly. So proud that Memorial is a national leader in sepsis prevention and treatment! https://lnkd.in/eZpvBB57
