When innovators and healthcare systems across the world can learn from each other, we all get better. Care becomes more personal. That’s why Mayo Clinic Platform exists: to create an ecosystem where data, digital solutions, and expertise can be shared to accelerate progress in medicine and better patient care. For this episode of Tomorrow’s Cure, we traveled to PlatforMed 2026 and sat down with Mayo Clinic Platform leaders and other experts shaping the future of medicine. About us
Mayo Clinic has expanded and changed in many ways, but our values remain true to the vision of our founders. Our primary value – The needs of the patient come first – guides our plans and decisions as we create the future of health care. Join us and you'll find a culture of teamwork, professionalism and mutual respect, and most importantly, a life-changing career. Mayo Clinic was founded in Rochester, Minnesota by brothers Dr. William James Mayo and Dr. Charles Horace Mayo. More than 100 years later, their vision continues to evolve around a single guiding value: "The needs of the patient come first." Today we are the largest integrated, not for-profit medical group practice in the world. We are recognized for high-quality patient care more than any other academic medical center in the nation. These endorsements are very gratifying, but also humbling. They remind us of the tradition that has been entrusted to each one of us, and the legacy of excellence that we uphold every day.

Congratulations to Lois, who recently received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses! Here is an excerpt from the nomination: "My family member was involved in a serious accident that resulted in their death. They were airlifted from our hometown. They were gone by the time I arrived but were an organ donor who was viable for donation. This gave me time with my family member that I would’ve given the world for. We got to have one more sleepover with them on their final night in the ICU. Lois was their night nurse. She made sure we were comfortable and explained everything she was doing while caring for my family member. She helped console my family as we participated in the honor walk and accompanied my family member to organ donation surgery. Lois made this incredibly difficult process a little more manageable, and I cannot thank her enough for that. She let me hold my family member’s hand all night and talk to them. My family and I are beyond grateful for the care she provided, and she will always hold a special place in our hearts." Mayo Clinic is among over 5,000 healthcare organizations worldwide committed to the DAISY Award program. The DAISY Award is presented each month to an extraordinary nurse. If you know someone looking for a career in nursing, explore available opportunities today. https://lnkd.in/dcfJjrhi

Mayo Clinic Platform connects innovators, clinicians, and health systems to enable better care for patients around the world. Among the ways it does that is through artificial intelligence, data, and digital solutions. In June, Mayo Clinic hosted PlatforMed 2026, a forum exploring how these technologies could help more patients get the care they need. Hear from some of the healthcare, technology, and policy leaders in attendance. While MS and MOGAD can share similar symptoms and imaging findings, they require very different approaches to diagnosis and treatment. On this episode of Tomorrow’s Cure, we sit down with Dr. Brenda Banwell, M.D., pediatric neurologist at Johns Hopkins Children's Center, and Dr. Eoin Flanagan, M.D., B.Ch., neurologist at Mayo Clinic, to discuss what distinguishes MS from MOGAD, the discovery of the MOG antibody, and how researchers are advancing earlier detection, diagnosis, and treatment of these unique diseases of the central nervous system. In October 2025, doctors discovered a tumor on Gary Lorenz's left kidney. He reached out to Mayo Clinic. Within one day, a video conference was scheduled for the following week with Dr. Aaron Potretzke, a Mayo Clinic urologic surgeon. Because of the tumor's location and associated risks, Dr. Potretzke recommended a robotic-assisted radical complete nephrectomy, a minimally invasive surgery using robotic tools to completely remove a kidney through tiny incisions. Myelin is the protective coating that helps nerve signals travel quickly and efficiently. In MS and MOGAD, damage to myelin disrupts communication throughout the nervous system, contributing to many of the disease's symptoms. As scientists learn more about the unique biology behind each disease, clinicians are gaining new tools to diagnose them more accurately and tailor treatment accordingly. Listen to the full episode "When it’s not MS: inside the discovery of MOGAD" right now. https://bit.ly/4g2We57
