A $1 million federal investment is helping restore one of Cary's most important waterways. Today, Congresswoman Deborah Ross presented Cary with a ceremonial check recognizing $1,092,000 in federal funding for the Walnut Creek Stabilization and Restoration Project. As part of Cary's broader Walnut Creek Stormwater Management Project, this multi-year effort will restore a federally designated impaired stream through streambank stabilization, riparian buffer restoration, and revegetation. The project will improve water quality, protect critical infrastructure, and strengthen the long-term health of the watershed. Combined with additional federal funding, Town investment, and in-kind services, Cary is leveraging approximately $4 million in grant funding to maximize local investment while protecting our natural resources. In honor of Global Garbage Man Day, we’re celebrating the Solid Waste team members who help keep Cary clean, safe, and running smoothly every day. 🚛♻️ Did you know? -Cary’s Solid Waste team is made up of 72 full-time employees. -The department operates a fleet of 31 vehicles and 30 collection routes, providing weekly curbside service to 56,000 households. -One automated side-loader collection vehicle can collect 1,200 carts in a single day. -A solid waste collection vehicle can hold approximately 13 tons of material, and Cary’s Solid Waste team typically collects one to two full truckloads per vehicle each day We handed a few crew members a disposable camera and let them capture a glimpse of their world. More housing choices are coming to Cary! Congratulations to the White Oak Foundation, Inc., on the grand opening of their new mixed-income townhome development. Of the 30 townhomes, 15 are reserved for homeowners at or below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI). Supported by Town of Cary funding, this project furthers the Cary Housing Plan and Imagine Cary Community Plan goals through providing affordable homeownership opportunities and leveraging community partnerships.
