It’s #TeamApexTuesday! Several Team Apex members, across 10 different departments, recently partnered with Salem Elementary to participate in Read Across America. This annual week takes place in early March, kicking off each year on Dr. Seuss's birthday and celebrating a love of literacy.

This year, our traditional 'employee of the year' recognition was expanded to highlight three key roles within our team. Congratulations to Courtney Butler, Community Risk Reduction Coordinator with the Apex Fire Department, who received our MVP Award! This is an honor that celebrates an employee whose extraordinary contributions have truly elevated our organization and community. This year’s recipient embodies the spirit of service, innovation, and dedication that define #TeamApex. After four years as a firefighter, Courtney took on a new role within the Fire Department, redefining what community engagement means for both the department and the Town. Through her innovative vision and unique background in marketing, she developed programs and events that extend far beyond traditional fire prevention efforts. Courtney recognized the importance of tailoring fire prevention education to various age groups and created age-specific programs that deliver consistent, impactful messaging. One of Courtney’s standout achievements this year was her role in Camp Ignite, a program that introduces high school girls to careers in fire service. Through hands-on training and mentorship, she inspired the next generation of firefighters, even mentoring one participant who has since started her career in fire service. Congratulations, Courtney!

This year, our traditional 'employee of the year' recognition was expanded to highlight three key roles within our team. This Coach of the Year award celebrates a lead worker or supervisor who has gone above and beyond to guide, mentor, and inspire their team while driving success for #TeamApex. Jessica Hoffman, Lead Budget Analyst, received the first Coach of the Year award! Jessica is described by colleagues as a “walking encyclopedia of knowledge” who is always eager to share her expertise and assist with any task, no matter the challenge. Whether mentoring graduate students, leading new analysts, or helping departments navigate the budgeting process, her guidance equips her team with the skills and confidence to tackle challenges independently in the future. From expertise in budgeting and financial analysis to institutional knowledge of Town operations, Jessica is a go-to resource for departments across the organization. Her willingness to share insights and continuously learn has made her an invaluable asset not only to her department but to the entire Town. Congratulations, Jessica!

This year, our traditional 'employee of the year' recognition was expanded to highlight three key roles within our team. The Rookie of the Year award honors a new employee who has worked with #TeamApex for less than two years but has already shown incredible promise, enthusiasm, and impact. Jamie Smith, Senior Program Support Specialist with the Inspections & Permitting Department, is the first employee to hold this honor! Jamie’s colleagues describe her as “an awesome human being,” “extremely reliable,” and someone who consistently “raises the bar.” Known for her can-do attitude, she finds creative solutions, keeps her team informed, and fosters an environment of trust and collaboration. Her go-getter mindset, proactive problem-solving, and genuine care for her team have already left a lasting impression on the department and the Town. Congrats, Jamie!

This #TeamApexTuesday is sure to put you in the holiday spirit! This year, we tried a fresh take on our annual "carpool karaoke" video concept by imagining... what if we stepped outside of the vehicles and let each department film their own music video? Find out what they came up with! https://lnkd.in/gyueXwew Shout out to the teammates from this year's participating departments: Administration, Budget, Building Inspections, Community Development & Neighborhood Connections, Economic Development, Fire, Electric, Human Resources, Office of the Town Clerk, Parks Recreation & Cultural Resources, Planning, Public Works, and Water Resources 🤩 #YouWantToBeHere

Our Community Engagement team coordinated a service day at Dorcas Ministries last Friday where Team Apex members helped tag holiday ornaments, sort through clothes, and take in donations. Thank you to everyone at Dorcas for showing our Team around and letting us help make a difference in the community we serve every day! #TeamApexTuesday

On Thursday, October 17th, we officially broke ground on the Apex Peakway SW Connector project! The project was funded, in part, by two voter-approved transportation bonds - one in 2015 and another in 2021, and $12.5 million in NCDOT Locally Administered Projects Program (LAPP) funds. This new portion of the Apex Peakway is a four-lane bridge over South Salem Street and the CSX rail line, and features many safety features including sidewalk, 10' asphalt side path, wide outside lanes to accommodate cyclists, and a concrete barrier between vehicles and sidewalk/side path. Anticipated completion of this project is 2027 and will enhance connectivity within Apex for motorists and pedestrians. Learn more about this project at www.apexnc.org/peakway A little information for our history buffs: - The Apex Peakway, a loop road around the center of Apex, was first conceptualized in 1967. - In 1989, the project gained momentum when a public hearing was held along with a formal presentation for the then "Apex Loop." - A public contest in 1991 by the Apex Herald provided the named we know today "Apex Peakway", submitted by Doug Boyette. - The first section of the Apex Peakway was completed in 2002. Since then, sections have been filled in through town projects and through developers who built commercial and residential projects along the route.
