  • Five years ago, amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Blood Emergency Readiness Corps (BERC) was established to help blood centers prepare for and respond to emergencies. Launched in July 2021 with seven participating blood centers, BERC has grown to include 38 blood centers representing nearly every state. The network has been activated 18 times in response to mass-casualty events and natural disasters, providing more than 1,600 units of blood to communities facing urgent needs. As a founding member of BERC, Carter BloodCare is committed to protecting the blood supply close to home while maintaining additional blood products on a rotating “on call” schedule that can be shipped at a moment’s notice when another community needs help. Honoring the American spirit of service begins with a strong and stable blood supply—and businesses across North, Central and East Texas can play an important role. By hosting a blood drive, your organization can unite employees around a shared purpose while helping ensure blood is available for patients here at home and communities facing emergencies nationwide. Help strengthen the blood supply. Learn more about hosting a blood drive here- bit.ly/BookaDriveCBC

  • Summer is known as the “100 deadliest days” on the road, meaning more patients in hospitals and an increased demand for blood donations. With high school blood drives on pause, the blood supply loses a source that accounts for 25% of all donations — blood that patients in critical condition may urgently need. • Grayson College recently marked a major milestone in the construction of the new Dr. Mary Moses Health Sciences Center with a beam signing ceremony, celebrating Dr. Moses who helped build the nursing program at Grayson College and was an influential board member of Texoma Regional Blood Center, now Carter BloodCare. Her dedication to her community and the importance of blood donors left an impact across the region and we are proud to see her honored through a center that will help educate and train future healthcare professionals for years to come.
